Corner Weighting Recommendation

Recommended Posts

tri_longer

I've got a few more changes to make and then my car is pretty much done as far as I am concerned with major changes.

As such I'd like to get it corner weighted so I can get the set up as close as possible to where it needs to be, does anyone have any recommendations as to companies offering this service, preferably in the North West area.

Don't mind travelling to far, but it's a trailer only job so wouldn't want to be cruising the length and breadth of the UK if possible.

Anyone know a place that will hire out corner weight scales? I want to use some to find out my CG height and location. :)

Be careful, some companies may give up and charge you anyway as i found out when my car is 40kg out across the rear after getting the weights myself. May want to consider shimming or making the car slightly worse across the front to help the rear. Cross weight is important.

I've been reading about cross weight so i'll bear that in mind.

Cheers

Theres seems to be two main views on corner weights, getting the cross weights bob on, or getting the front weights equal. Personally i always focus on cross weights, not actually had a 205 on the scales, but on something like a Westfield you can get the cross weight bang on 50% with driver, thus making the car equally balanced in both directions. IMO the front weights change to much from weight transfer during heavy braking to warrant getting them equal in a neutral postion. I set up all the cars i get in focusing on cross weight and always seem to get a good results whether it be a fast road car or race car.

See below my readings, if you can't figure the info out let me know.

My opinion is that with a front wheel drive vehicle you are pretty limited as to what you can do, my car was a stripped out competition car and was pretty light for a 309.

All with 3/4 tank of fuel

Original weigh

LF 189 284 RF 473 61% Height LF 310 310 RF

LR 196 111 RR 307 39%

385 395 780 Total

49% 51%

LR+RF 480 62%

1st Adjustment

LF 197 276 RF 473 61% Height LF 315 305 RF

LR 188 119 RR 307 39%

385 395 780 Total

49% 51%

LR+RF 464 59%

With Driver

LF 204 314 RF 518 59% Height LF 315 305 RF

LR 205 150 RR 355 41%

409 464 873 Total

47% 53%

LR+RF 519 59%

Corner Weights FL FR RL RR Total % Front % Cross % Left

Car Only 276 272 136 155 839 65.32 51.37 49.10607867

84kg Driver 290 303 146 187 926 64.04 51.51 47.08423326

Heres mine for reference. Cross weight a tad out.

309 pug: how come your RR is so low compared to the LR. (205 to 150) and yet the RF is 314 compared to 204 or am I reaidng this completly wrong?

Sounds about right for a FWD car.

might be a stupid question but what can you actually do to adjust the weight distribution other than use a balast?

You adjust the spring platforms if on coilover, raising the platform effectively adds weight to that corner and the opposing diagonal, and vise versa. Shims are also sometimes used like on the older Ferrari's that are fixed platform.
