Should A Phase 2 Have This?

It's below the distributor and has the SAD bolted to it... Not got a clue what it is and if it's needed on a phase 2 car. Has a sensor in it.

I'm currently putting my engine wiring loom to the correct one as it had a ph1.5 engine loom.. Just need to make sure it'll work! :)

Phase 2 cars shouldn't have that, no - on Phase 2 models, the coolant hose runs direct from the thermostat housing to the heater matrix, and the ECU temp sensor is on the thermostat housing itself.

However, you might be stuck with it assuming that the engine is also an earlier lump, as the thermostat housing won't have the hole for the ECU temp sensor in it - so you'll need to swap the thermostat housing over as well for a Phase 2 one before you can get rid of that block.

Cheers Antony.

I have the thermostat housing off a later car (I think!) but if anyone has a picture I can tell what I will need. :) I want to remove it as it puts all my hoses in the wrong place...

The lump is a db6 but out an earlier car. It's been a bit bodged in.. :(

Easiest way to tell is the later (Phase 2) housing has three threaded holes on the back for the ECU temp sensor, gauge and warning light senders.

The earlier (Phase 1/1.5) housing only has two threaded holes, for the gauge and warning light senders.

Is this a phase 2 one??

Has 3 sensors on the back.

At a guess, it's bolted on with just a gasket between it and the head?

I think the very early phase 2s still had them. Mine did (Oct/Nov 1990), and so did another H-reg phase 2 I once looked at buying.

True, there were some odditiies on the early Phase 2 cars - the car in question being a 1992 model should definitely not have had it though!
