Stripping Paint From Alloy Block Engine

Recommended Posts

rallysteve

Before I start the build of my alloy block mi16 I would quite like to remove the red engine paint that it is covered in. Is there an easy way of getting this done (e.g getting it dipped ect) The block has been decked so i dont want to risk damaging the mating faces. Because the engine has been dismantled in storage for a long time, I would like to get it hot dip cleaned anyway afterwards.

Any opinoins?

Cheers

Steve

tape up top and bottom openings and get it blasted would be the easiest option.

Cheers. Should it be any particular kind of blasting? e.g. glass bead or aluminium oxide etc.?

whatever your local place does tbh! They'll most likely advise the best type of medium for a particular application.

Google Maps - LE19 2GJ

Easiest way is down the M1 to Leicester and take the road to Narborough at the Fosse Park/M1 island.

It is a straight road to Coventry Road and the farm is on the right as you exit Narborough.

20 mins from your house :)

Spot on cheers, will head down there on Friday. Might even think about taking my alloys at the same time :)

Ive got this same problem also but mine suffered after having a respray bonnet removed etc and just not enough masking.

The red spray dust is all over the enigne and i dont have time to take it out.

Anyone know know what is good here to get the paint off? or just get in there with some thinners?

Surley this is a better option for you as well? As getting the engine blasted is a bit of a hassel and risk filling ports/inlets with fine dust is a big problem (unless its being stripped right down and eveything cleaned?)

cheers!

THIS is what i used. My engine is complete so this was my only choice and its good to work with. It drys quite quickly which meant the paint came of in a dusty type of way. Iv used other stuff before now that was too wet and meant more work trying to clean it all up.

I used THIS and looks very nice.

If you can ensure the blcok can be thoroughly flushed and cleaned, nothing will beat aqua-bead blasting on ali parts. Alternatively soda blasting.

Soda blasting is your best bet as it leaves a washable dust opposed to sand etc which you dont want finding its way inside.

If you were local I could blast it for you.
