Mi16 Idle

Recommended Posts

Before everyone says it'll be the throttle spindles... It's not, i've checked!

My Mi16 idle control valve appears to be faulty, if 0 and 12v are applied it opens fully, when they are removed it snaps back and but appears to over travel, leaving a 2mm or so gap.

Is this supposed to be there?

The problem is the car idles at 1400rpm. Removing the icv and blocking both pipes brings it down to 800 ish.

The temperature sensor appears to have the correct resistance and other than idle everything is ok.

The throttle position sensor works and has open circuit 2-18 on idle and 3-18 full throttle. The cable is loose and on idle the switch is definately made, engine note changes on idle if it is disconnected.

Any ideas? Does anyone have a known good icv I could try?

Tom Fenton

The switch should MAKE two contacts when it is closed, this tells the ECU to go into closed loop idle. ICV operation sounds normal to me.

Sorry yes it makes centre and one side on idle and centre and other side on full throttle and just before.
