If you had a car that you wanted to preserve, how would you go about it? I know the obvious is to garage, but the specifics are???

Axle stands? Drain fluids?

Exactly what?

Presume it's a mint GTi and it's to sit in the corner of a big garage??

I don't think draining the fluids can do more good than harm as the pipes wil corrode/perish IMHO. Not sure about the rest.

How long do you plan to store it for and will you be able to move it or turn it over every now and then?

In case you haven't already come across it, storage level 1 under http://www.classiccarstorage.co.uk/ mentions "to be carefully recommissioned after leaving storage"

So I think a cambelt, waterpump and all fluids change and rear beam inspection/rebuilt would be on the to do list after long term storage if the car hasn't been used at all.

Leave the hand brake off and put the wheels on dollies is a start.
