Red Cellulose Paint

Recommended Posts

smithy

For another project and not pug related but thought I would ask to see if anyone can advise.

Bought some red cellulose paint but it is a bit lighter than I wanted,is there any way to make it a darker red?

It does not need to match up to anything I just want a darker shade.

add black cellulose paint to it, drip by drip stirring it, you will see it change colour. Black is more powerful than red tho, so dont over do it.

Throw it in the bin and go and buy 2 pack.

My 205 is Cherry red, I painted the wing and bonnet when I repaired it just after I got it.

2 and a bit years later, with the car regularly waashed and stored in the garage, the paint had faded badly and also taken on a crazy paving effect.

Spoke to the guy at my paint factors, he told me that the base stock in celly just isn't very good any more.

I painted it in 2 pack and it looks mint. I've used celly to paint lots of cars in the past, I will never use it again now.

I would like to add a word of warning to this having just read about two pack!

This stuff is Extremely Toxic and should only be sprayed when using air fed breathing apparatus an in closed spray booths. Unlike celly it contains isocyanates which when inhaled could cause death and is not recommended for ues by diy sprayers. :o

It is not for a car but for another project I am working on so not too concerned about quality of finish.

2 pack is proper dodgy without correct equipment whic is why I am using celly, the red I have just needs darkening up as it is a tad orange at present.

I have sorted it now though the paint supplier done me a small pot of red raw material which I mixed a bit at a time to reach desired colour.

You did not point out the dangers in your advice though did you. Any one not knowing could put their health at risk.

I don't point out the dangers of lots of things, anyone savvy enough to know where to buy celly to spray with will also know the dangers of inhalation of wet paint spray.
