High Oil Pressure On Startup?!

Recommended Posts

james306

Recently my oil pressure gauge is going up to just below the top mark upon start up, at first I thought 's*it, blocked pick up' and cut the engine straight away, but restart and same again, sounds healthy enough, no knocking/tapping/rough noise so very gently drive on. After about 2 minutes (once the oil begins to warm/thin?) it goes back to normal and drops down in idle, picks up with revs etc.

Something I should be hugely concerned about?

Could it just be the cold oil or do you think I should be investigating for a blockage/debris by the oil pick up?

Oil and filter change due with the cam belt change next week or so, as cam oil seal is leaking.

What was it doing before? TBH it sounds normal.

A blocked oil pick up would not give you high oil pressure.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about it - some of the 205's I've owned have had the pressure gauge off the scale with stone cold oil and they didn't expire.

Puts my mind at ease a bit :)

It never did it at first, just seems to have started in the last 2 months, she was fine over winter when the oil would have been colder.
