is there any advantage to having one on a rally 1600 8v or is it too revvy with not much torque ?

There's advantages and disadvantages, the same as any other mod really:

 

+ Improved throttle response and pick-up

+ Quicker acceleration, particularly in lower gears

 

- Makes the engine more sensitive to idle problems

- Easier to stall when pulling away if you're clumsy with the clutch

 

Given that a rally car will spend alot of time in lower gears and accelerating, and rarely idling or pulling away from a standstill, then yes, I would say it would be advantageous.

Can i just hijack your thread here i was thinking about this on a 1900td but with out the extra weight would it mess about with the pump? I.e make it idle alot higher etc
