Speeding

So there was an accident on the M5, it suddenly closed - I came off at Bristol and accidentally got caught going 39 in 30 (it was a courtesy car, accelerates a little faster than I was use to) - I applied for the speed awareness and was told it was unavailable straight away and told to wait my fate...a month or so later, I get this through the door.

Thrifty tried charging me a £42 admin fee too - told them I had been exonerated but didn't say why and the women said "If you havent been fined, we won't charge the fee" so I quoted this when I sent her this scan and got off with that too...

Sometimes the little man does win, its hilarious that they even let this happen though!

You are extremely lucky :o going 9 mph over the limit is deemed as too fast and is classed a speeding ticket and not getting offered the course.

Now you have showed lots of people with this thread the possibilities of getting away with it, this does not (imo) help show drivers what they should be doing. It will encourage people to think mm ill only get a telling off

Yes thats right, because as an adult I have no sense of morality so can now commit speeding offences to my hearts content. Maybe i should print off a copy of the letter to carry around to show police officers that I thought i would just get away with a course.

TBH you dont know what your talking about, re read my post properly

Thats not the point is it. The point is someones gone 9 mph over the limit in a residential zone, which could have caused someones death and now showing off he has got away with it. With no guilt or nothing about doing that speed.

But when i was talking about wanting my dog of the lead which is far less serious, i got it in the neck yet it seems, so far people aren't bothered

Daily shmayail what a load of B.

Whats the point of limits then ?

A child is more likely to die at 40mph than at 30 and im surprised people here thinks this thread is ok :o

Dear dear, Surgie please put down your shovel. If you read the OP at no time does it make any reference to the speed being appropriate. It is more pointing out the shortfall of the police organisation, and the fact that they have cancelled the people running the awareness course, but then allow someone who asked to go on it, to not get any points/fine or course.

Nice get off!

Surgie; you have no idea what the circumstances are WRT the speeding - muddatrucker could very well have been slowing down in a controlled fashion and endangering no one.

Get down from that high horse of yours.

The kids got away with it because none of them were run over. Do you know you're less likely to kill someone if you hit them at 20mph Surgie, or 10mph, or 5pm, or if you don't drive at all? I'm sure you've never exceeded a speed limit.

Surgie, also I was offered the course at 39mph, its 40mph+ where you just automatically get the points with this particular constabulary.

How do you know about my guilt? surely I'd admitted guilt by saying "yes it was me" and not appealing it.

Theoretically your dog could of torn a kids face off, but since it didn't happen and I didn't kill any children, its a non point.

And so begins another long drawn out slanging match, in the blue corner Surgie, whose fingers are so fast he's reported you before you post, in the red corner, everyone else.

I understood you perfectly well thank you. Perhaps taken the time you might reread the OP. And quite right to bring up the dog off lead issue. I think my reply was sarcastic enough to be seen as such, and I in no way advocated speeding. You quite clearly did advocate having your dog off lead.

avon and somerset police are pretty crap with their admin which is good for us. i also have a letter like that saying they were dropping all procedings against me. i was caught doing a lot more than 30 on a stretch of dual carriageway late at night, when the nip came it had the offence date as january not june which was when it actually was! left it a couple weeks then wrote a letter saying the offence was over 6 months ago blah blah and got off

i must add that this was a good few years ago when i was young and stupid.

Surgie, you really are top entertainment!

(Of course, are you really telling us you have never ever broken a speed limit? I highly doubt it, in which case you holier-than-thou attitude really does start to grate...)

I dont no whether to take some as an insult or compliment, i really dont write stuff to get a reaction. I just say what i feel at the time, swear down guys. Although in real life, i often make people laugh without even trying to, just the way i am sometimes.

No, i dont ever speed over 30 in a 30 mph limit area, thats just stupid. However i may do when its really quiet say in a 50 - 70 mph. I have never gone over 100mph as thats also too fast for the roads and you can get a instant ban for that.
