Rear Axle / Suspension Problem 'click'

Recommended Posts

brandon7

So in the last few months my car has developed what can only be descirbed as a click sound from the rear. This comes from the rear left corner im sure. And its usually when the suspension is under pressure and nearly always when going round corners or coming off the kerb out of my drive way.

Im pretty sure its a problem with the rear axle or tortion bar? Looking down there with the wheel off nothing is visibly wrong but I was wondering if anyone could pick out the problem?

Also if it is the rear axle or tortion bar weather its easier just to replace the whole thing. I hear you can get a kit to rebuild parts of the rear axle but its a bit of a hassel?

I thing the whole rear needs an overhaul and the tortion bar setting up it does sag a bit at the back.

Can anyone pinpoint this problem and over some cost effective advice!

Cheers all!!

could be the anti roll bar moving about if the bearings are worse for wear, quite a common problem on 106's/saxo's, not come across it on a 205 myself.

If you look on the main site there is a guide to removal and repair of the rear beam assembly. Be warned though that the vast majority of them when removed can be beyond repair. There are a number of people on here that can supply rebuilt beams, me being one.

Thanks Welsh pug ill check the roll bar.. But the ride is pretty uncomfortable to be honest and ive just rplaced the shocks so I suspect worse.

Hi tom, yes i thought that might be the case I cant be bothered messing about with somthing that is quicker just replaced, Ive got my hands dirty enough with my car already.

What does your rear beam come with then? Do it need to use my origonal torsion bar, rear arms breakes etc?

Have you heard of the sypmtoms of my problem before?

Cheers

Its pretty impossible to gauge the condition of the internals of the beam until its totally in bits.

One thing I would check first are the rear mounts from beam to body. These are rubber mounts with steel plates bonded to either side. Commonly after a few years the steel splits away from the rubber. These are cheap and easy to change so worth you checking first.

My beam come ready to bolt onto the car, apart from braking parts, brake line brackets, and dampers (you can re use your own). I need a beam in part exchange though.

That would be ideal but I dont live anywhere near yorkshire, not even in England. Ill have to see what I can do locally. Thanks though!

Anyone else heard this problem I have? Or advise on rebuilding rear axle components? Is it difficult? Where is the best place to get the kit from?

Have you tried checking the end plates to see if they are tightened up enough as the can come loose as cause this noise...
