Clutch Cable / Vts Box Nightmare!

Recommended Posts

Right, I'v been trying to sort this out for months trying different things etc so I think it must be the cable, the recent thread by Anthony reference motaquip cables on put more doubt in my mind!

I'v now got the correct clutch cable arm on the vts box from a BE4 box (all i could get) but I have been told its the same as a BE3 and the cabel comes up short? As I mentioned above I purchased a motaquip clutch cable for a 205 GTI, is there different lengths for BE1/3!?!? Or is it that, as Anthony discovered, wrong part in right packaging! <_<

Thanks, Ali :)

(PS will get a photo up tomorrow if it helps, didn't have my phone on me today)

You've converted the VTS box to use a 205 style push-style clutch, correct? And you've swapped the clutch pedal for a BE3 one I assume (I've never closely looked at a TU one, but I'm assuming they're different - BE3 pedal has a sort of hook on the end of it)? If so, you should just need a normal 205/309 BE3 cable.

Give me a moment and I'll get you a picture of what one looks like so you can double check if you've got the right part....

This is the cable I'm using with a VTS box, usual BE3 205 cable, but it was nightmare to get hold of!

Even more annoying when I swapped shells I found that the red 205 had a BE1 pedal, so had to grab the BE3 pedal from the black shell.

Do you have the right arm? As the box is a BE4 to start with, I thought you had to swap it to a BE3 for it to work?

That's the two ends of a 205/309 BE3 clutch cable. It's something in the region of about 145cm in total, from the tip of the white plastic hook to the end of the threads.

The two variants of BE1 cable both look noticeably different at the pedal end, having a metal pin arrangement that goes through the pedal rather than hooking on the end as per a BE3 cable. Earlier BE1 cables also lack the white plastic part and rubber grommit that sits flush in the bottom of the pedal box (under the servo), instead having a black twist-in type fitting.

Hope that helps :)

Theres my problem! Thank you gents. I have the clutch cable with the metal end with and the pedal to go with it as per original TU <_< Will have to get hold of one of the cables that clips on.

Have you got a spare pedal box kicking about Anthony?

A whole pedal box, or just a BE3 clutch pedal? Assuming your old clutch cable has the same pedal box fitment as my picture above then you should just need the pedal.

The top one is the same as I bought from the same seller, but now £2 cheaper.

They both look correct to me - I can't fully make out the pedal end clip on the first one, but the description is correct and if Keith's bought from them then it should be fine :)
