Bloody Camera's

Recommended Posts

NOsMAN

I driving along the ring round and its sign posted for 50MPH so I doing 48MPH , then suddenly it changes to 40MPH so I ease of the gas and there is Dirty swindling mobile camera is right behind the 40MPH sign. So now I've ruined my clean license ............. :(

Felt like ramming the dirty robbing gits, got a letter through saying I was doing 46MPH..... BLOODY ANNOYED

Is that really aloud, to have a mobile camera right behind the 40MPH sign as soon as I'm informed to slow down?? I did ease of the gas , but didnt bother slamming on the brakes..

Can I lodge a complaint and win?

Bad luck.

AFAIK there should be temporary camera warning signs put up warning you of the temporary/mobile camera.

Yes if there were no signs to say there could be speed camera's within a certain amount of road, cant remember how much of the road though

Depending on the area, you could get one of those speed awareness courses

I agree, sometimes the speedo signs are hard to see when it changes from high to low etc.

It's distinctly unsporting setting up a camera where they did, but legally you're meant to have reduced your speed BEFORE you pass the speed limit sign.

Most people don't of course and only start to slow as they pass the sign, but that isn't an defence in the eyes of the law unfortunately.

Same way as there's a sneaky camera van that used to be over my way that would park up just before a national speed limit sign coming out of a 30mph zone, pinging everyone that saw the sign in the distance and accelerated upto speed. Thankfully I very rarely see the scamera vans these thanks thanks to Swindon Council ceasing to fund the paracites.

where was this?

ring road near showcase cinema, noticed that the 40MPH sign is twice as small as the 50MPH signs before it

oh well i'm gonna have to pay it, gonna ask if i can pay by instalments, being a skint student :P

I virtually never use the ring road (1st time in 4 years), everytime I have I run into bad luck

Thats odd, if you are in a 50, the 50 signs should be smaller as they are repeater signs, i.e. simply to remind you of the limit. Where-ever a change in limit is made, in this case from 50mph to 40mph, the sign at the change should be larger. Are you sure you didn't go passed the large 40 signed and just missed it? If you didnt, go back and check out the area, you may be able to get off on a technicality if you can point out that the speed limit signs are not legally correct.

If the camera was right behind the sign, surely it registered the speed you APPROACHED the restriction?

Only if it was forward facing?

It's worth checking the traffic order on the road to see how far the 50 extends for. Often the signs are changed but the order still stays the same. If it has not been changed then you have a case for complaint.

Bastards! As Anthony said though, as unsporting as it is you're supposed to slow down before you reach the signs.. you'd fail a driving test if you didn't so it makes sense.

I think it may be too late to complain about poor location or inadequate signs though.. this is something you need to do on the day.
