Flashing Lights

we have an 89 205GTI which has been converted to a GTI 6 which is running ok but high revs cos of 1.6.gearbox but thats another issue. the prob started when i tidied up the patched looms and cut out all the extra wire (being carefull not to take out any inline resistors or supressor ) which has now given us the flashing stop and over temperature light, untill it reaches running temp. does anyone know why this should happen since it wasnt happening before. i have extensive experience in loom wiring on forklifts but not on the gti.

Oh, thought i should mention that the 306GTI ECU is/was cable tied to the battery which is why i wanted to tidy it all up.
