Edges Of Trimmed Slam Panel

Recommended Posts

shalmaneser

As part if the gti6 conversion I've obviously taken my angle grinder to my slam panel. However, the edges are sharp and i noticed one of them was wearing away on my silicon hose yesterday. I'm gonna paint the slam panel today, but wanted to finish it off nicely.

I've seen this thick rubberised tape stuff that people have put on sharp edges - here's a pic of Carl's (of CG Cars) car where you can just about make the tape out on the edges of the slam panel...

and here...

I seem to remember parts of my 306 Dturbo had similar protection...

Any ideas/links?

Demon Tweeks isn't being very helpful!

I am sure I bought some similar stuff from somewhere like Vehicle Wiring Products.

Anthony

I'm not sure exactly how he did it, but the best that I've seen was done by Dan Taylor (taylorspug) on here where he had continued the standard lip round into the section that had been cut back and it made it look perfectly OE and of course had no sharp edges or anything else - somewhat overkill, but it looked really good and was one of those touches that made the whole install look really professionally done. There might be something about it in his build thread that's on here somewhere if you have a search.

Dan's was welded back into place then ground/smoothed to look factory, probably took a good few hours but looks so damn good. I'm sure it'll be in his project thread as Anthony says!

'Titanfast PVC edging' at tweeks but also available on ebay for half the price, so have gone for some of that!

Will see how it goes! Only cost a fiver anyway.
