Mi16 Internals And 1.9 8V Internals

Recommended Posts

Carbs4me

Can you fit the Mi16 internals into a 1.9 8v

Such as pistons, liners, crank... if so what combinations would i have to use...

such as 1.9 crank mi16 rods mi pistons

1.9 crank 1.9 rods mi16 pistons

or they just all the same clearances?

Thanks,

would i be ok with mi16 pistons and mi16 liners using 1.9 crank and rods?

I think its the early stage head... but im going to get a exchange unit from hiflowheads.... so it could be either?

I strongly recommend avoiding said company, i, and numerous others, have had no end of problems with their efforts.

how bad are they?

i was thinking of swaping my head for one of theres either a stage 3 or 4? are they that bad at there job its not worth the effort buying one from them, or is it just there customer service?

I dont know exactly what work needs to be carryied out to the cyclinder head i have... but im looking for a head setup that would be good for a 170bhp setup?

I was thinking to lighten and balance the whole engine... run it on bike carbs with 4-2-1 manifold on standard camshaft with 1.6 pullys, polished and lightened and balanced rods and JE pistons, do the same with the crank.

I went down to the head machining shop for cyclinder heads... near where i live they asked me a bunch of questions of the valve sizes i want etc etc and i was like errrrrrrrr (i dont know much about them)

So now ive found myself reading puma racing tuning guide which i cant really make much sense of when reading about the cyclinder head... as he rambles and rambles... on how every1 elses quality is poor! i become bored.. and im very slightly dyslectic so i can become very confused when reading things very quickly!

It's a mine-field to start with,

Ignore Puma Racing for a start, He's even banned from this Forum, But my best advice is find a company with a good reputation and talk to them directly and ask for some reports on there work, The Web can offer as much bad advice or advertising as good.

As I have said before all this Stage 1, 2 etc is complete rubbish and just a way of selling things which sound better than they are, Much like Competition, Fast road can all mean just standard parts as driving fast with a standard engine means 'fast road' for example

To answer your initial question, yes, you can use Mi16 pistons/rods/liners in an an 8V block. You can use either 8V or 16V crank. The only thing you can't do is mix 16V rods with 8V pistons. The bearings and clearances are the same. I'm building one at present - 8V block, 8V crank, Mi16 pistons/rods/liners, 8V small chamber head. CR will be approx. 11.5:1.

so there is no alterations needed for the mi16 pistons? the 8v's valves will clear them?

No, the valves will never go near them.
