This may sound like a stupid question but are self-adjusters really needed? or is it esaier to just remove them?

yes, they are part of the brake shoe/handbrake mechanism.

 

1.6 ones dont really self adjust anyway :lol:

yeah i know they are, but as you rightly say, they never self adjiust, there crap!
