Coolant Level In A Phase 2 Expansion Tank

Recommended Posts

scottbarton

Hi all

Quick question.....

I have a phase 2 (H Reg) 1.9, and it has the black expansion tank. There is no level marking on this tank, as there are in every other car i have owned?

How do you know that the correct amount of coolant is in there?

I took the cap off and i can see coolant at the bottom, was just wondering if it should be more half way, or a bit further than that?

You can't strictly overfill it but ideally you want a small gap between the top of the fluid level & the neck of the expansion tank.

Once it's nearly filled & water is coming out of the thermostat housing bleed point, slowly fill up & keep checking the expansion tank level, shine a torch to help see the level if needed & if you fill to overflowing, waggle a finger inside to splash some out to make a gap or put some cloth in to soak some up.

Graham.
