Anyone Had Dealings With Vic Tests, Cat B's Etc

Recommended Posts

floodys

Just a quick one, ive got a gti that with the cheap car checks carchecktext and checkmycar both about a fiver each, say that car is cat b in 2004, spoke to vosa and car not had vic check nor needing one? It should as i read if cat b plus something on V5? now, i dont really want to spend £20 odd quid geting a HPI check so is there another way to be certain? I dont really want to sell for silly money but at same time if its a mistake by cheapo checkers then someone may get a bargain if wrong!! Advice please if you been in same situation!!

A CAT B write-off doesn't need a VIC check because it should never go back on the road - it is meant to be broken for parts only.

So if i read it right, car gets smashed, car gets written off, whichever cat...., by insurance company, after 2003 insurance or someone take log book and if need vic, dvla wont release V5,also if ive got something saying cat b, then 1 i shouldnt have been able to get the log book when i brought it plus there isnt anything in the special notes section stating it has been a cat b etc?????

Cat B is supposed to be a breaker only, Cat C is the only cat that requires a vic check.

My last car was a CAT.B write off, I had to break for parts and send the shell for crushing.

When the car gets a cat c marker set against it the dvla wont release a logbook until the marker is clear - I have had vic checks done before because I used to buy salvage vehicles and repair them for myself to run, its a simple check and takes no more than 15 - 20 mins. They basicly just want to know its not a ringer or a cut and shut or that youve not used stolen parts

an easy way to check if the car has a marker on it is go to the dvla website here - http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ then click Vehicle enquiry and enter the reg and make and at the bottom if its a cat c it will say it requires a VIC check. once you get the vic done when you apply for the logbook there is a box for you to tick and you dont have to pay for the logbook.

When the logbook comes in there "special notes" part of the logbook where it usualy says "declared new at first registration" it will also say something like this vehicle was a cat c status had has been repaired.

Colin.

No tampering at all, the rear quarters are origianl and so are other pannels.

Very appreciated for the check orb, sorry i hadnt thanked you earlier but have been trying to get to the bottom of this mistake and the people at these car checks are sure that the cat b thats against my car should be against another car! Sorry again!
