Wheel Spin On Rolling Road?

Recommended Posts

NickMi

Hi guys

I have a high spec 8 vale turbo engined 205

I took my car for a power run today on a rolling road.

The guy strapped it down and attempted a power run in 4th gear (six speed box)

The run was going fine and then the turbo started to really spool aprox 3,500 - 4,000 rpm and the n/s whell started to spin and give off tyre smoke.

The graph on the rolling road went off the scale and the max on the scale was 250bhp whp.

He said the car was running well over 250 bhp and he had to change the settings and run the car again in 5th gear to try and sort out the traction problem.

He ran it again and the power went off the scale at 300 bhp whp and was tyre smoking from the n/s wheel again.

He could not give me a definative engine output as he said the car had too much torque for his rolling road and the car kept wheel spinning.

In my eyes all the wieght is over the front wheels and it was strapped down so i dont understand why it was wheel spainning?

Do you think he had set up the rolling road incorrectly?

Cheers

If the RR did not have adequate load/resistance it is possible.

I remember one of the times I was round at SBC and they were rolling roading a car, I was asked to sit on one of the top mounts as the car was spinning.

It was a bit scary to say the least but fun

There are quite a few pics around from old rolling roads I have been to with people sitting in the car and on the slam panel to try and reduce wheelspin. Modern RR's are usually ok though

Crap RR basically.

Go somewhere with much more advanced set of rollers, Dyno Dynamics preferably if you need a realistic power figure.
