Engine Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Pazzapug

Hi,

Im just after some advice on engine upgrades for my 205 1.9. I know theres the webers route and turbo route, has anyone gone down the stage 1 head/fast road/rally cam etc? And is it worth it?

Many thanks

Chris

With a good cam to start with theres not really a whole lot that can be done on a normal sized budget. I dont think that you will get any significant gains unless you give it to someone like sandy who will build a proper spec engine. For value for money upgrading to a 16v engine is the route to go IMO for a road car.

The Stage 1 & 2 etc is complete **** basically it's just a way to rip people off, the head should be done to a certain spec, Its much the same as the words, Group n, competition or even Fast Road

I call my cams by that as in the Aus and American markets it means an increment of 10 deg. @ 0.050" duration over standard. Sorry for any misunderstanding or **** caused in your market.

I dont think its your cams we complain about :D

Over here theres a bit of a habit of certain 'tuners' to use stage 1 - 5 to represent levels of tune. All bollocks really

Yes in the UK as said it's about the most abused terms going, it has no meaning at all bar from the boy racer market but ask them what it means and you normally get a blank expression

tony perks

Plenty of people have gone done the tried and trusted route of Heads and cams, with mixed results. Personally I like the well ported head std valves and something like Pipers 270 cam, with 4 branch manifolds and proper tweeking/setting up, I have regularly seen a solid 140bhp and 130ish lb/ft torque and still very drivable.
