Corsa Power Steering On 205

Recommended Posts

brumster

Would be interested to know how it handles quick switch-back movements, like chicanes, and if the assitance can keep up... toyed with the idea in my new build... do let us know!

Welshpug, I believe there are some power-assisted quickracks - PTS did one - I have one. But appreciate it's not a cheap route to power assistance AND a quick rack.

Think I'll get a manual rack with a quaife quick rack fitted(square drive so it fits the corsa),surely be a lot better than just leaving a standard manual rack on?

I think I now need to do this conversion as yesterday I did a regularity rally including 15 special tests. The tests were fairly tight and twisty and I really suffered on the slow twisty sections. On the positive I don't think I will need to go to the gym for a few weeks.

I did this to my Cavalier track car (260bhp TB'd engine).

The steering assiatance keeps up fine.

Nope they don't suffer the meriva failings.

If I was being critcal then I would say it takes a little feel away, but nothing some time in the car won't re-teach you.

As for weight - it's fairly heavy. Probably a luttle lighter than the electric hydro systems.

Oh - I used it on my quaife manual quickrack on v700 tyres (in a big heavy cav) and it coped fine.

Not though that it *could* draw upto 50amps.

So manly wiring and appropriate fusing required.

A friend of mine has just done this to an ex-works car.

The shell used to be a LHD car driven in the late 80's by Kalle Grundle. She has been rebuilt with a weld in cage, new bag tank, new tunnel, and electric power steering.

Most of the Escorts I do have it, one thing that concerns me though, is the amount of solid metal very close to your knees, not sure it would be ideal if you have a biggie.

Also i looked at this idea but am put off with all that under the dash board. Plus it seems ok in Escorts but theres more room in them and also these Corsa items dont't seem to have a good relialiblty record in the research i did. :)

I've only heard good things about it.

Anyone interested contact Roger Hicks(Roger on britishrallyforum),he knows everything there is to know about it.

I'm still considering it or the 106/saxo route

Done this to my 205 rally car is so easy if using aftermarket steering wheel just need corsa boss. They are good as same length top mount is in same place all is needed is to swap uv joint and make new mount for bottom and weld indicator bracket an barrel onto corsa column. Only took hour or so

How much did the whole conversion cost?

One of the main criteria for me when sourcing my car was non pas..even though the pas set up is good on 205s it's nowhere near as feelsome as the non pas. I can imagine its a sacrifice worth making on a track/rally car but not for the road IMO. Its what separates 205's from lesser hatches.

Sorry to drag up an old topic but can this be done and the interior still go back to totally standard so you would never know it had been done? The corsa column look pretty big, would it fit behind the dash trim?
