Having Trouble Living Up To The Legend

Recommended Posts

i thought id have a rant so please bear with me, ive been enjoying 3 days of plodding about in a 1.8 diesel 205 and in that short time i have been subject to more road abuse than any other car ive ever driven.

1. People pull out on me at every giving chance.

2. I get tailgated by every middle age wanabe i encouter.

3. I have been overtaken with on coming traffic and two lanes into one by a Impreza, MR2 turbo and Saab 900. (JUST SINCE SUNDAY!!)

The list is endless, now I dont want to put the car down but it is a pile of poo. The paint is gone bad all over, I dont even have hubcaps or any go faster bits and its got almost 230k on the clock! Now what really gets me angry is the fact I clearly have a childseat in the back and I carry my son around most of the time yet im still subject to this kind of behaviour. We all know how safe these cars are in a rear impact (NOT) hence im moving him to the front.

I swear the next person to offend me today is going to get a shock when a angry 6'2" kraut munching German gets out and slaps them upside the head. I feel better now

Must admit i get the same in my GTI. People see an old car and have this superiority complex and need to get in front of you. Funny thing is most of the time these small engine eurobox's can't keep up with my 1.9. You know, the type of people who think newer=faster.

OK the 1.9 isn't fast compared to even the TDI's of the world, but those 1.4 euroboxes that weigh a ton don't stand a chance.

But yeah i get pulled out on, overtook etc etc. grrr

Yeah i get pulled out on all the time no matter what i'm driving. People are always in a big rush, despite driving at 40mph everywhere

This is one of the main reasons I built my 1600 turbo. Having just renovated my 1600 as a std 1600 GTI I drove it about and in only a couple of weeks had all manner of nobends and repmobiles blow me into the weeds. Obviously this could not be allowed to happen for too long.

These days it can be very entertaining when some chief in a TDI whatever decides to have a pop. My favourite trick is to pull away in 1st quite gently, so said chief thinks he has the drop on you. Then pop it into 2nd at about 15mph and hoof it. Bye Bye TDI.

Your right about the whole 40 MPH thing! Clear road, 60 limit, and, oh, you decide that 40 is fine? These are the same people who moan like hell when they get a speeding ticket, because they still do 40 in a 30, but drive 'safely' (by this i mean with there eyes shut) when traveling 40 in the 60. If i could have my way, id have the police with a roof mounted grenade launcher, to blow up all these cretins.

Sorry, off topic i know, but GRRRRRR!

As for the pulling out, tailgating etc, you wont find many people trying that on me with a wanky old Escort van!

 haha, made me laugh

I rarely ever have this  I only ever have maybe half a dozen times in the Rallye before but I never liked to rise to it as I deep down knew I wouldn't stand a chance  (a certain time at some traffice lights in swindon next to a 2L rover springs to mind -_-) Saying that, couple of week ago I was doing 55 in the xs (saving fuel) with a bettle right up my trumpet, came to a dual carriage way and I waited until he pulled out and hoooooofed it up to about 90, dual carriage way over I slowed back to 60 :P

That is nothing to be proud of, no excuse for the car behind to tailgate, but in actual fact I'd give said Beetle driver full permission to rip your head off and s*it down your neck for such a nobnecked piece of driving.

Hardly, I was sitting at the limit on a national (A road single carriage) and he was right right up my arse, he was the 'nobnecked piece of driving' as you so lovingly put it.

Whenever I'm out in mine the same thing happens, I love the variety of cars which think a 205 GTI is old rubbish only to get a little shock. ~200bhp in a 205 makes it quick enough to give alot of people a nasty suprise.

My old 205 MI16 got written off by a transit hitting me up the arse at a fair old rate while I was stationary, which kinked the roof, pushed the rear quarter forward and bent the boot floor downwards. I would rather have that type of accident again than get hit sideways where these cars have zero safety features along with rusty sills.

I have thought about the scenario of being in a serious head-on accident that in theory I would get off the brakes at the last minute and pull them onto the seat to avoid being crushed in a 205!

I thought statistically the safest seat in a car was the passenger rear.

Thing is guys if I was out in my actual GTi id expect a little horseplay, but im in a Diesel and not even 60hp. Dont the 155 tyres give away this might not be a preformance car. Its not even like i drive faster or slower than traffic.

I just want to be left alone its enough i have to tackle the kamakazi school Mum's every morning.

Funnily enough i haven't experienced this in my 205 but it is totally standard to look at. It happens to me all the time though in the 306, this is lowered with 17 inch wheels and literally every time i go anywhere in it i'll end up with either a Scooby or an Evo up my arse trying it on.

Along the same lines but when ever I seem to be at traffic lights in the gti, the usual suspects alway ways try to coax you to race them. I mean I will drive quickly in the limits of the road ( iv lernt from past mistakes ) but what's the point of the hole must wheel spin of the lights to be the first in to a lane merge.

ive had this alot of times... the only car ive owned since i started driven was a 205GTi... at one point i got a guy pull up next to me on a dual carriage, way round about and shout out of his window, something along the lines of (look at that s*it old car, how much is that worth 300 quid with the girls laffing. Probly not exactly what he said) but he was basisly trying to show off to a group of girls that where in his car at the time, in his Audi hatch back S3... my mate just looked at me and show them what there against! so we set off (rather quickly) by time we got to the second round about i was at the side of him again and pulling away! by the time we hit the motorway round about(which was red lighted) i was 30 seconds ahead... my mate slowly put his window down and replyed not so FLASH now are you you smug B*****D no1 in the car could even look at us because we had the biggest smiles on our face.
