Wandering Water Temp

Recommended Posts

TaffyTim

Driving the car today the dash water temp was dancing and couldn't decide on a steady figure.

I'll get about to changing the sensor soon (i presume its one of the ones on the thermostat housing) but in the mean time will this affect the engines running?

if the needle was actually dancing about rather than just moving up and down with engine temp changes like when you stop in traffic ot put the boot down, then I'd be looking for a loose connection :)

At a guess I would say the brown multiplug above gearbox is suffering the usual corrosion issues.

Have a check of that first before changing the sensor.

ok thanks chaps, I've been fiddling about in that area recently so may have knocked the terminal once or twice. If that doesnt solve it i'll have a look at the multiplug.

Does its reading affect anything else than just the dashboard dial?

Lol, this thig is gonna blow, Yellowstone Park has got nothing compared to whats a bout to happen :-P

I'm not worried about it really though as the car has never overheated, its just I want it all working right as it should do, but time is short so i'm just making sure it'll be ok if I don't get onto it for a week or so.

I had similar, mine was one of the connections to the temp sensor, it had got a bit splatted with oil too - just needed a clean up

The switch for the clocks won't effect anything else. There is a seperate ECU temperature switch that deals with extra fuel when cold.
