Phase 1 Cti - No Power To Fuel Pump

Recommended Posts

stufarri

I went on holiday and returned after a week with the CTI failing to start (the GTI wasn't for starting either but that's another story).

I have replaced the tachy relay and tested the power at the fuel pump and 0.01V is there on cranking.

I bought a fuel pump off Anthony - looks like I won't be needing this perhaps!

There is a spark but it won't fire due to no fuel - fuse 14 is fine too.

Any ideas please?

you say tachy relay has been changed but is it actually getting power to coil to energise it?

the relay should put a feed out to pump and injectors on cranking,it is energised by the starter solenoid trigger feed and once running from the dizzy/ignition amp.

I am a bit of a numbskull, technically, so apologies. What is the electrical sequence from the battery to the fuel pump?

you need to get a haynes manual or download one,i am sure someone on here has a link to haynes as his signature.

basically when you turn key to start the feed to relay is taken off same wire as the starter solenoid once the engine is running the feed is taken from ignition system, sorry cannot remember wire numbers off top of my head but there is a circuit diagram in the haynes that shows it.

I have got a Haynes manual - might as well have not bothered though it's a waste of time!

I'll have look at the wiring diagram, thanks

Changed fuel pump (thanks Anthony) and bingo! Bloody fuel leak now though where I removed/replaced fuel filter.

I'll get some copper washers at the weekend.
