Caught Speeding

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

long time since I've posted on here!! The new forum looks great.

Basically I've been and got caught speeding in a works van by a mobile camera van doing 78 in a work van that's not supposed to be driven above 50mph on a 60mph road. To be honest I didn't even realise I was doing that speed, it was a clear straight road on a lovely sunny day and I was on my own, so I wasn't putting others lives at risk by driving dangerously or anything like that.

I've been driving 4 years and this is the first time I've been caught, typical really I hope like hell I don't lose my license as I just picked up a new GtFour yesterday and don't fancy just looking at it in the driveway. Can't believe after a few years of driving cars that are capable of silly speeds I get caught in a bloody Hiace van....... Oh well, no one to blame apart from myself.

Just wondering if anyone else has had anything similiar to this and what sort of fines/ban/points I should expect to recieve?

that will be the standard 3 points and £60 fine, or if your very lucky you might get to go on the speed awareness course.

Silly boy Seb! What will work think?

When are you back at work? If you're free on Thursday I could pop over and see the new GT4?

78 in a 50? You might well end up in court for that...

According to Pepipoo there is no chance of a fixed penalty or a training day.0

So plead guilty now, as you are in the works van I guess your boss knows now.

For not pleading guilty, the magistrate guideline is Band B Fine based on a percentage of your wage to a maximum of £1000, disqualify 7 - 56 days or 6 points.

Exactly what i was thinking, going nearly 30 over the limit for the vehicle.

I pretty sure you only get offered the course if its in a low speed limit and only if its a few miles over. :)

it was a 60 zone but I was traveling in a commercial vehicle so should have only been doing 50 (I was not aware of this at the time)

Ross, I was back to work today that's when I found out about the speeding issue. We'll defintiely have to meet up soon and have a look at each others cars.

Think I've got 6 points in store and a hefty fine. I will plead guilty, if I deny it the blame may well be put on someone else.

I think it's less than 10mph. I got caught doing 11 over the limit and got points and a fine but my mate got caught doing 8 over the limit and he did the course instead of taking the points.

With regards the course, I got caught doing 81 in a 70 and did the course so I think it is looked at on an individual basis rather than being high or low speeds or certain amounts over the limit

What kind of individual circumstances, the weather

It should almost be black and white, so a certain max amount of MPH allowance over the limit should be the same all over the UK, its not right that some places will let you off more than others

I would imagine that its going to be 3points and the fixed penalty. I was caught doing 96 in a 60 and got the same. Although that wasnt a speed camera.

Careful what you wish for - that kind of attitude will mean that you'll get pulled and ticketed for being 1mph over the limit. After all, it's black and white, the speed limit is x and you were over that.

I got 4 points and a £90 fine for going 57 in a 30, so you could be looking at something like that, now I think about it that was 16 years ago <_< .

I read that the limit for the speed awareness course is something like 6mph and 10%.

You could get away with if you find some foreigner to put the blame on.

A colleague and I drove to London back in January while on a business trip in Wales, he had a bit of a heavy foot and got caught doing 36 in a 30. The company got a notice of intended prosecution as we were in a company car, he sent the details for the fine to the police and never got anything back. It's been 3 months since then.

If you do that then they now often check to see whether the person you're claiming was driving was insured on the vehicle - if they weren't and you're claiming they were driving, then you're potentially digging an even bigger hole for yourself. It's a well known ploy and plenty have been rumbled doing it.

Well my GF Dad had to go to one of those coarse's and was told that the amount over the limit had to be no more than 4mph to get the coarse, no doubt due to most cars having inaccurate speedo's.

Is it not correct that going over 20mph more than the limit of the road means that drivers is or was going to get automatic ban for ?

If you're going to speed do it properly like we do here. The recipe is: proper radar detector like the Beltronics 995, Rx65, Valentine one + CB Radio so you can talk to lorry drivers and they'll tell you where the mobile cameras are + GPS device with fixed speed camera map.

And that excuse about no one being in the car with you, so you weren't endangering anyone's life does not hold. There are other drivers on the road, retards may pull in front of you from side roads without looking. Don't get me wrong, I drive like a maniac at home and everyone speeds from time to time, but don't pull that excuse. :D

I think worst case scenario is 28 day ban, 6 points and up to £1000 fine. Obviously I could do without that but.... A 28 ban would be alright because it would give me a chace to fit my intercooler and get some bits and bobs painted to make my car mint. I am determined to find a silver lining round the cloud!!

Ha, thanks Jonny unless they make an example of me I can't see them sending me to spend some time at her majestys pleasure just yet.

Still can't believe I've been done for speeding in a van of all things!! I don't generally speed at all in my car, must just have been a bit of a lapse of concentration. Those camera's must have a good range on them.

This is worst case.

It's points or ban not both.

Why worry, i have heard on the news that there's loads of drivers allowed on the road with over 12 points. If a ban causes hardship they are allowed to carry on. There's one bloke in Swindon with 39 points and still allowed to drive. The law is an ass

This can be done by giving a plea in mitigation. They can be quite expensive if you instruct a firm to act on your behalf to draft it.
