Gti6 Wiring 'keepers'

Recommended Posts

I have removed the engine and other gubbins from a GTi6 as I want to pop the engine in a 205.

I decided to buy a full, low mileage car with history etc so that I could take off what I needed opposed to buying everything seperately over a longer period.

I have kept the calipers and engine back. I have unlocked the ECU and left the engine loom cable tied up so I don't pull bits off thinking it's from something else!

Now, I would like guidence on what else I should keep back before I weigh the rest in tomorrow. The rest of the loom I have left on it.

I have found a sensor identifier thread on here which will be handy. Do I need to keep any other looms, like particular ABS sensors to take with the calipers?

I would much prefer to be told now, than to let it go to scrap and have to collect bits again.

The battery box might come in handy, but i'm really not sure what else to keep back.

Have spoken to a couple of people about this conversion who have told me not to bother :D so any kind words of encouragement and personal experience to keep me interested would be greatly received.

You'll *need* the following as a minimum for the conversion:

  • Complete GTi-6 engine with manifolds, ancilleries etc
  • GTi-6 engine wiring loom upto the two round multiplugs, including the bits that are plugged into it like relays etc. Depending how you're planning on doing the loom, it might be worth grabbing the other side of the round multiplugs together with a foot or two of wiring.
  • ECU that you've unlocked prior to starting to strip the car
  • Lambda sensor from the CAT
  • Crank sensor from the gearbox
  • Battery box (not needed per-se, but makes for a much neater conversion)
  • CAT (again, not needed per-se, but depending how you do the exhaust you might need to cut the flange off it)

Clearly it makes sense to strip off much more than that however to sell on the bits that you don't need to recoup some of the costs, providing that you've the space to keep them and the time/inclination to remove and sell them of course. 306GTi6 forum would be a good place to sell on what you don't need.

The cat was one of the first things I sold

I have a GTi6 decat pipe, which I was hoping to fit, but I imagine the angles will be all pete tong when mounting the engine?

I will grab some cable from the other side of the multiplugs to the fusebox just incase I need it.

Yeah I have stripped the interior and beam etc, but just didn't know if it was worth keeping any pipes or wiring in particular.

I have OCD, so will strip some of the wiring covers to reuse and some clips to hold pipes together neatly etc. I have kept some sections of fuel pipes for instance to make it easy to see which diameter pipe I need to purchase.
