B Pillar Back Tints In Family Car - Good Or Bad?

This is a question I never thought I would ask as I am/was not a fan of window tints.

We have a new baby and my family barge is a 5 series. I don't really like all those stick on window blinds but something is needed to block out the sun in the back, hence my change of heart on window tints. Does this look a bit wide boy or sensitive father that does not want to blind his son?

 

 

I am closer to 40 than 30 so do not have huge amounts of 'daddy cool' to help me style it out.

I ticked the option for them when I ordered my old BMW. They don't block the sun completely (I had to use blinds too, the official BMW ones are quite smart) but do take the sting out on bright days.

 

It's the real dark/mirror tints (illegal ones) that are wideboy!

Perfectly acceptable IMO, loads of stuff comes with them now, so its not as if you are doing anything out of the norm. My Mrs. MINI has them in the back from the factory, not as dark inside as they look from the outside in fact.

 

My Shogun on the other hand has all windows apart from the front screen done, to add to the full pikey effect. I like to accentuate this by riding about in a mucky hi viz jacket, grease covered jeans, and rigger boots, with a few daaaaaags in the back.

I was not a fan of them either but my car has them factory fitted at the rear windows and behind the C pillars/rear hatch and despite being dark brown (they look black from outside) I think they look good even if I say so

It depends on the colour of your car as well, but they suit the car well in the above pic IMHO.

I have them as standard on my Honda FR-V, but they look well because it is black.

 

I was tempted to get my 307 done too as that is also black. The secret is to keep them as light as possible. Some of the Jap stuff comes with Limo black as standard and that looks awful.

Mine car is a slightly darker grey than the one above although not graphite. I will not go limo black, just OE 20%.

ive just ordered a galaxy with privacy glass from the b post back. they look really dark from the outside but there not so bad when your in the car.

 

definately a must if youve been quoted £180. i soecced mine and they cost me £200.

I agree that limo black looks awful in most cars but for some reason I like it in the FSTI (OE fit). Not exactly limo black though but the colour depends on what angle you are looking at it from and on the light conditions.

I agree though that black looks OK only in (some) dark cars.

As long as it is not a 205 of course!

If you're getting all the glass behind the B-pillar tinted including the rear screen, just remember that it makes visibility at night worse.

 

Certainly I used to hate reversing in unlit areas at night in my friends car that had heavily tinted windows because you couldn't see a damned thing...

That's very true.

Not so much with traffic behind you since it is not a problem with other cars' headlights but reversing in the dark is very tricky.

I think window tints look right on newer BMW's, they look good in the picture and not at all out of place. Most of the more luxury/pricey cars that come through our workshop these days for pdi have tinted windows so it's common to see them. On an old E36 or something they would certainly look wrong though.

The difference is the smallness of the glass in modern cars now. I saw a picture of a 508 next to a 405 Mix4 recently the and the 405 looked like a greenhouse by comparison
