Understeer...

That's funny, from the photo it looks very very very low, and like i said, its just to test, once you find the correct front height you can adjust the back accordingly.

as we've all agreed on here a few times before, lower is not always better.

Just to give you an idea of how it should look with the base model arches, heres how mine sits with the wishbones perfectly paralell to the ground:

wishbones are very nearly straight, with a 5mm lift they will be spot on :)

Whats cold and hot tyre pressures all round? Playing with these can make a massive difference!

i try and aim for about 30 when hot, although by the time i come back in the pits and remember to check them they've obviously cooled down a fair bit.

think there about 22 when cooled off.

i inspected my R888's earlier and they have worn in the middle abit more than the outside which indicates they did get to hot when being out there.

Had any luck with killing the understeer Ash?

Those pressures are pretty high.. I thought 24-25psi hot was more the norm. Last time I went out I tried going from 27psi hot front & rear down to 25.5 front, 26 rear and it was real nice. Could probably have gone lower than that too.

yeah i had a trackday yesterday at Llandow, im going to raise the beam a touch but the 24mm arb has certainly helped out. understeer is much less now. with the 24mm arb almost wants to oversteer, but keep you foot in it and all good

If you raise the rear it WILL oversteer more

surely it will have the opposit effect, a car thats lower on the rear will always want to oversteer easier.

its only going to be about 10mm tops

To get all pedantic, I think raising the rear is kinda bad for 2 reasons, both because the roll centre is at ground level with trailing arm suspension.. 1 - raising the CG above the roll centre = more body roll = poor geometry as trailing arms have zero camber compensation, 2 - raising the CG = more weight transfer = less grip.

IMO, it's best to have the rear a little lower than the front, but I like the car to be neutral.

Put it this way - I realise there are multiple factors involved here but 'in my experience' if the car is trying to spit you off the road (oversteer wise) dropping the rear e.g. 10mm dramatically calms the problem

Therefore vice versa if you want to try and induce a degree of oversteer in an understeery car - try raising the rear 10mm, if it makes you understeer even more than before then the physical principals applying to you and me are obviously different!

You have to remember that if you are too low the car will hit the bumpstops as well making the handling rather s*it.

then the end of the travel will become even more sudden...

It did look a little low at the rear from some of the Llandow pics, doesnt take long to adjust it though if its recently been apart.

yeah it does look abit low on some of those pics, going to raise it anyway as it rubs on the back with 2 people in it on track. feels alot more setup now than it did last time out, so going the right direction

I was on a trackday yesterday with my 205 and after doing some laps I just felt it was understeering all the time and was very hard to get good lap times.

(It's the 2.3 250-270bhp region engine that sits in it.)

It's got bilstein 309 tarmac dampers in front with 300lb springs.

At rear however it's more or less a standard 309 gti rear beam with 205 pts tarmac spec dampers. (so actually it's expected that it will understeer).

Anyway I lent the car away to a guy that I know have been racing 106's a lot, and after driving it he said that the car itself really was good balanced.

Then I was a passenger with him and his driving style of course were quite different to mine, I'm too fast into corners, struggling for grip all the time, then getting late exit..

However I wil try to upgrade the rear beam with some stiffer bars and TB that I have lying around.

Anyway to me it seem that the speed into corners and the way the power is added is making this car just unbelieveable hard to drive. My old 205 Mi16 (148bhp) was just so nice in comparsion.

Let us know what you find out about it.

The orange one is mine, however looking at the pics now it almost seem to sit lower at the front than at the rear, but I guess measurements like this should be taken from sill and down to ground?
