Now I'm All Grown Up What Should I Do With My 205?

Recommended Posts

I've had quite a few 205's over the years and bought my last one about 10 years ago and spent 4 years and ~£20k modifying it. I never put it in any mags or anything as the project was way too personal. 6 or so years ago I started a company that consumed all of my time to do date, this is pretty established now so I can be a bit more flexible w/ my time.

Personally I have just bought a family home so I don't really want to invest any of my disposable income into a car, plus I'm getting old(28) and kids will happen sooner rather than later (don't tell the Mrs I told you this).

Imho the car needs some things to make it show ready:

Full paint job (~£2k) << I did original one and it's not great.

Some engine work (~£1k) << A friend of mine has offered to do the engine work on the cheep as he some time off uni - he is trying to persuade me to go w/ throttle bodies and I am tempted :P

Some ICE work (~£1k) << Just needs "updating"

I did/do want to do a road trip, I was gutted I couldn't make the 25th as you guys would of been a perfect bunch to go across with as my 205 often needs the skills of other pug owners. I'm also gutted I haven't got a T16 yet but I'm probably not alone feeling like that!

I don't really feel comfortable driving a modified motor any more, I feel the whole boy racer thing got a load of negative press and I didn't do the body kit by 1/2, it's pretty erm, loud... It's also taking room up in storage.

Pic of 205 attached: (Best one I have at the mo for some weird reason) there are prolly a bunch more on the net somewhere.

I feel like selling the 205 would be a huge waste of money as I would never get a return but on the other hand if someone would enjoy it more than me that would be great..

What have other people done with their cars when there life has changed to a point where it's not really a feasible investment?

LOL yeah I'm 38 and still have my 205 that I bought in '93 and I have 3 kids so you can do it! Just need a place to keep it. I bought a bubble and keep it in that in the drive and take it out for tinkering every now and again. Much better than a garage cos it keeps it bone dry and mould/rot/damp free.

I'm 37, married and a home owner and still muck about with the 205. Preferring to travel in that rather than anything else even 100's of miles. Mine lives under a carport (the garage is full of bikes/tools) Doesn't do more than 5000 miles a year. These days I just keep it ticking over, I've done pretty much everything I want to it.

Moments to keep it for are for example, the hack down to Goodwood yesterday early morning following (keeping up with) a 458, 360CS and a 430 on our way to Super car Sunday. :):)

37, Married Home Owner, 3 Kids. Turbo'd 1993 205 CTI with Gutmann bodykit. I love it for a blast around the Peak District. It keeps you young and my kids love it! It owes me nothing and costs me very little to run per year

Im 28 soon, guess i better sell my modified 205 to go towards a deposit for diesel mondeo, or, maybe not!

205s dont really cost much to run, its std tax, and on classic insurance its cheaper the older you get.

Does the stereo 'need' upgrading to enjoy driving the car?

Does the paintwork 'need' doing as above?

I guess if you think they do, thats fair enough, each to their own, it looks like a nice car (would quite like a Cti myself if i had the money for a 3rd car!) but you can still drive it on a budget dont you think?

Its down to you at the end of the day, but as said already, your nowhere near old!

Hang on to it if you can.

I'm facing a similar dilema.

Sell the 205 and buy something else.

I would love to keep mine.

snap but 24 and renting  i think personally though to add to the thread, 205s are old now and nothing looks better than a standard minter, with few tasteful mods but original curves and kit

23 and my girlfriend recently bought a house! means I can be immature and carefree, with the added benefit of a huge double longitudinal garage, best of both worlds lol :D

The project 205 has somewhere to live indefinately lol :)

I am very young.

I have two kids.

I have a drink problem.

I have a 205 (or two..)

I have a 60hr a week job.

I smoke too much.

I have a mortgage.

I dont want to sell anything.

All of the above are pointless statements. I like my cars, I will continue to buy more cars untill I cant fit any more in the space I can make available to keep them in.

As long as you spend wisely and plan for the future you can have most things.

I could never see myself without a 205.

What did you spend the 20k on??
