Converting Twin Fan Wiring To Single

Recommended Posts

Daviewonder

Hello :)

I have got the twin fan wiring set up from a 205 diesel. I want to convert it from twin fans to single but I'm unsure of a few bits. The twin fan setup works by powering the 2 fans in series so they run at half speed and parallel to run at full speed. If I remove one of the fan setups then I guess that I'm only going to have the fast speed available due to not being able to run in series anymore, is this right? Also what exactly does the red two pin plug behind the passenger headlight do? I know I need to plug into it but I'm unsure what it does. I would like to check if it's working ok as it looks a little worse for wear.

Cheers, Dave.

with only 1 fan you will only have 1 speed unless you wire up using the resistor like standard single fan setup, personally i would not bother my fan is running via a relay as more reliable. search for my posts and there is more info about how i wired it up.

as for the red 2 pin plug not sure what that is for as mine is not connected (cannot remember if it was connected on original set up?)

Red 2-pin plug provides an ignition switched live to the relays - unlike the standard GTi setup, they don't run with the ignition off.

I normally just chop about the diesel wiring looms to make a single relay switched fan that runs on full speed for both what would have been slow and high-speed. My attitude, rightly or wrongly, is if the engine is getting hot enough to need the cooling fan, I'd rather it ran on full speed and cooled it down quicker, and if that means it's a little louder then so be it.
