Mi16 Keeps Arcing Out

Recommended Posts

backroadpug

Hi all I have an mi16ed 205 the engine blew a bit back and ive now replaced it with a fully re built bx16v

problem is I had it all wired up in the car, was turning it over to build the oil pressure before starting her. All fine

Connected up the fuel pump and fitted the spark plugs turning over but no fuel (no power to fuel pump)

so decided since it was dark to call it a night so disconnected the battery.

Next morning with a fresh head decided to get her running so out with the test light

Connected the battery and it keeps arcing out?

Ive checked all the earths o.k, checked all the wires and plugs are going to the right places

what would be my next plan of action as im hopless with wiring.

right first thing first

whats a 'blown engine' in your eyes

what do you mean arcing out

do you have the ignition on when your connecting the battery

do you have an alarm fitted

do you have your radio on

is it shorting out? i.e. smoke/plastic burning smell

have you blown any fuses tryign to connect it

where is the arc?

more info the better

hi my last engine put a rod through the block

when I connect the battery the battery terminals try to weld themselfs to the posts

Ignition is off when I connect the battery

There is an immobiliser fitted but that seemed to be ok when the car was turning over(light flashes then turns of)

There doest seem to be any smoke or smells from any were else just the battery posts to terminals

Ive checked all the fuses by eye they all seem ok

wiring is not my forte especially when it wasnt me that wired it up.

Check the starter motor and alternator main feeds are not touching the inlet manifold or are touching the alternator or starter motor bodys themselves. Failing that, disconnect the starter and alternator in turn and try reconnecting the battery each time to see if you have eliminated the problem.

If it was all ok beforehand, its only something you have done when bolting it all back together.
