Look What I Found!

Changed the oil today whilst doing the engine mount, it's the first change since I've had the car so was expecting it to be a bit black and 'orrible. Undid the sump plug and the black tar oozed out, lumpy and thick. At least I thought they were just lumps...

Hmm, nice. At least there is a reasonably easy route from the oil filler to the sump, and the bolt doesn't look chobbled up, so the chances are someone dropped it down there, and its been sat on the sump floor a while not really doing any harm (luckily).

Yeah they are no marks on it so I don't think it has been anywhere it shouldn't (apart from the sump in the first place!).

It did worry me though, the amount of things I've found that the previous owned has just left/ignored is rediculous!

Off topic I know, but when I bought my first car (1988 MG Metro Turbo) I stripped the engine for a full service after owning it for 6 months. There was a PEBBLE and I mean a PEBBLE about half the size of a golf ball under the rocker cover...

I serviced a 12 month old Ford Fiesta a while ago and found a sizeable bolt restricting the flow of old engine oil out of the sump. Luckily it was just small enough to come out when i got a magnet on it. Makes you wonder who screws togther these things nowadays

There was a story going around a while back of a dealership stripping down a mini gearbox, that had just come off of the production line, because it wouldn't drive or engage gears. It turned out that the box was just full of oily rags and nothing else

Not sure of how true this is though, would be pretty funny if it was
