I have recently taken in a quite poorly 306 rallye

It needs quite a bit of tlc and probably about 400 spending on it to get it into reasonable condition

I've been out in it today and absolutely love it!

The problem is the wife!

She says I can't have that and my 205 gti6 :( which needs new brakes and driveshaft oil seals

I've always loved laser green 205s and I'm torn, in the one hand I have a potential collectors item due to the limited build number and the other a rapid but modified future classic simply because it's a 205 Gti.

So do I keep the 205, where I always get comments about it or go for the rather unknown rallye?

Thats not a question. I like 306's quite a lot, but 205's are best!

Keep it! Fix the Rallye and sell it. Spend a few hours working on the wife so you can keep both!?!

I've owned a rallye in the past and ended up getting another 1.9 205. The novelty at first is great, the rallye is a good car and i remember thinking i wouldn't own another 205 again after the rallye. Few months down the line it got boring and i started looking for another 205. I'll probably get a gti6 at some point as a more comfortable run around, but imo the 205 is the one to keep. :)

Easy>- say to the wife that having these only two (toys) cars will keep you satisfied and happy. Then save and get here something nice, a better holiday maybe ?

You could maybe have one taxed for the winter an the other (ie 205) for the summer, with a bad winter weather the 205 will be safer.

Holiday!!!!!

We ain't had one since our honeymoon (5 years ago)

I really want both, but I also have a 3rd car and she has her own. It's not that I'm greedy, I just love cars

Her argument is that the 3rd car is a 5 door and would be more practical when we have a 2nd child.

I think I lean more toward the 205, but have had my head turned by her firmer sturdier more accomodating younger sister ;) not my wifes sister before anybody gets any ideas of me being vulgar!

I think I will sort the rallyes bigger issues and see how I feel when it's running at 95%

Assuming that your signature is correct, surely the Rallye would replace the Meridian? I can't see why you'd have both?

That would still give you the Leon as a family wagon, plus the 306 is big enough for use occasionally (just not as easy being a 3dr)

That's my argument!

I bought this with my own cash (nothing to do with my business) without consulting her as a fixerupper

The meridian has seen better days, when we bought the Leon they offered us 400 for it as a part ex, it's worth more in bits. It also won't last forever like she seems to think it will!

I've told her this but she is very very stubborn

as Feb said, a friend of mine ran a Rallye as a family car for a few years, it is safer but not as lardy as a gti6 :)

Well I think I'm going to sell the 205 :(

I've vertually sorted all the rallyes bodges and rust, it's become almost a labour of love :)

I can't really justify having the rallye as a daily and the 205 for weekends, plus it will free up some much needed cash (wife wants the patio doing)

Will be moting it in the next couple of weeks, putting the standard boot on (so it doesn't look like a metro anymore) and giving it a general tidy up :(

Sad to hear that mate but I can understand as that is generally what happens when you do so much work on a car.

Do what I do. Tell the Mrs I have got rid of a car but actually its down at a mates house or in a barn somewhere. Shes none the wiser and happy and I'm happy... Win Win :P
