Gear Rods

Recommended Posts

bren_1.3

hello all, long time no post,

ive been playing with the gear rods on my 205 rallye, and recently made a rose jointed long gear rod.

this is the one that runs from the gear selector, up over the top of the subframe to the L-Bracket.

i was just curious is there was a market for them, or have people already done this?

thanks

Miles on here does them to high quality.

I cant see no reason why you cant make them if you can do them cheap enough, everyone like to buy quality cheap items

Any chance of you making rose jointed track rod ends  ?

Hi Bren,

Good to see you're back! Is the old Rallye going to be up and running any time soon? Would love to see it out again.

Are you looking at the rod that rocks on the ball joint from the subframe? Mine kept popping off the ball and the rod is now held in place with 2 tie wraps....

Regards

David

depends on the price miles does them for, but this would initially seem a no go then...

PS. Dave, unfortunately its been mothballed for a summer project pending some new premises for it where i can open the doors and work round the car with the welder to put a new cage in. ive got some new straight doors for it, and aquired some new parts so its never far from my mind..

hope all is well at your end...

Heres the one i made around 4 years ago:

The rod i found to be under the most stress is the middle sized one that goes from the L-bracket to the selector, i started with M6 rod ends but i broke the arm, then i made a stronger one but i broke that too. I've since upgraded it to M8 ends and it seems fine now. I'm thinking about welding a bolt on to the selector to make fitting easier and allow the breaking to mave a bit more freely but i can't find anyone who will lend me a TIG welder

Awesome work! Where did you get the rod ends?

And how often do you grease them up?

I got the rod ends from Merlin Motorsport, the M6 female ones are just really cheap and nasty ones becuse they do bugger all but the M8 and 3/8 UNF ones are decent quality ones.

Since i made it i've never oiled the bearings.

I have the same problem, can open one door fairly wide, but only if bthe other side of the car is jammed up against the garage wall.

The old Rallye is going really well. Just beaten my old class record at a sprint track up in Scotland called Kames a couple of weeks ago. Off to Ingliston Circuit at Edinburgh next Saturday for another sprint (got my class record from last year to beat) and then we go to Teeside Autodrome on the end of May bank holiday, Barbon Manor at Kirkby Lonsdale at the beginning of June and then Aintree on 24th June. Just hope the gearbox hangs on in there!
