New Turbo

Recommended Posts

Right guys. The turbo has gone on my car and i do not no which route to take.

1. Send my turbo of to be rebuilt.

2. Send it of and get it rebuilt to hybrid spec.

3. Get a tt manifold and buy a t28 hybrid turbo for a 200sx

I would use the search function but it will not let me??

What will be best in terms of price?

Depends really, option 1 would probably be the cheapest and easiest, option 2 obviously dearer but still just as easy, option 3 being a tricky one, as you'd have to actually find a TT mani for sale, then it depends on the turbo! If you're buying 2nd hand that one could then let go and require a rebuild so you're right back where you are now but afew hundred worse off! And obviously if you buy a rebuilt t28 its going to cost a fair bit, then the cost and finding of the TT mani!

So option 1 for cheapness and easyness!

option 2 for the same easyness but abit more money, but better gains

option 3 for alot more money, alot more effort, but probably more gains than 1 and 2

:)

Depends if you look at the total price or quid per bhp....

Indeed option 1 is the easiest, but doesn't bring any extra ponies...

With option 2 you run the risk of cracked turbine housing, since an upgrade will produce more heat and the turbine housing of tct t25 are not the most solid ones...

Currently I working on option 3, but that's a tight fit and you need to slam bulkhead (at least for a LHD) to make the T28 fit.

My T28 is the GTI-R version iso 200sx one and might have slightly bigger compressor housing, but still the space is very limited.

With TCT manifold the turbo sits a bit lower. Next to that you need to make a new downpipe, oil plumbing etc.. Not impossible, but extra work.

So now I'm trying to get option 4 to fit. TT manfold with a T25 flanged TDO4....

That an impreza charger the td04?

If you were lucky you might be able to find a TT mani with the Garrett t25 that came on TT conversions. Get that rebuilt and you've probably got the best of most of the options...

No, Impreza turbo's don't have T25 flange.

Std T25 are not that great; would opt for something bigger/better if you're spending money, since rebuilds aren't for free..

The std T25 used by TT will push 225bhp? A 200sx T28 can do 270bhp and the GTI-R one 300bhp...

You won't see these figures with this engine but indicates that your turbo won't run out of steam so easily and you don't need massive intercoolers to keep IAT low.

If go for T25, at least get a GT25R...

Yeah I know, my question was is a TD04 an Impreza turbo? Not is your t25 flanged one from an Impreza. I know alot of the Starlet boys use TD04's

edit: Quick 10 second search and yeah it is

Most Impreza's have indeed a TD04, but remember that there are many different TD04's; the Impreza one is TD04-13G... I think the smallest trim availabe is 9G and the largest trim is 20G or 20T.

In general these are more efficient than the T25/T28T/T3's... (GT25/GT28 are superior to the T25/T28 by far, but the price is likewise.... )

TD05 doesn't fit the TT manifold directly and would hit the bulkhead if used with an adapter... *has one on the shelf for the next step*
