Looks great! Bit of rust under the rear seats?

 

If your going to remove the undeseal I wouldn't use rattle can spray paint to reseal!

the bit of rust was just a stain, came off later with a bit of polish, the underside i will be removing the underseal then putting on a few layers of stonechip then paint

right then todays just been painting and a bit more cleaning

 

first off the slam panel was chipped and rusty

heres before

and i decided to do something different with the badge,

still in two minds about it but i think it fits in with the red and black theme of the GTI

 

and to finish off some beading

oh and had a look and the last mot this car ever had was 1st september 2001

stripped the engine bay down today and cleaned it ready for sanding and painting

 

heres the passengers side with the washer bottle removed

and the drivers side

and the bulkhead

 

and after a good cleaning with AG engine and machine cleaner( black/grey bits are ether scratched off paint or rust)

much better

 

then i removed the scuttle panel

then the wiper motor and arms

cleaning under the scuttle

and how i left it

pile of bits to clean/paint

 

if its a better day tommorow i'll sand and spray the engine bay

I'm not going to be driving it, i bought it to restore and when its done i will sell it on for a profit

what can i say

i like what you are doing and your work looks good

it just goes to show what you can do to make a car look a lot better with a small cash outlay

and you only 14 and you have a lot better taste in cars than your brother.

Good work specially for someone at the age of 14 although the painting of bits could be improved or do without (since paint on those parts is not needed to protect them from anything but only done for cosmetic reasons and they are easily visible)

No offence meant but it looks like someone poured some oil paint on the engine mount, alternator etc.

the head and block were painted in brush on POR 15 engine enamel in ford red and aluminium silver and the rocker cover and other bits and bobs were painted in Hycote VHT silver and then Hycote VHT lacker to prevent the paint getting scratched

and the gaskets were from my local motor factors

big update coming up and its been copied off another forum so bear with it lol

 

got the engine bay all painted up

 

first off i got it sanded down and masked up

 

then first coat of paint

 

and after a few more coats of paint and then lacker

 

and unmasked

then i put the engine back together

still got to put the origional stickers back on but its nearly there

got under the arches painted today

 

here they are before

 

very nasty look like they have been painted with house gloss lol

 

so proper paint on

 

and suspention etc painted

 

and the drivers rear

 

and the passengers front

 

really happy how they've turned out still have to get the passengers rear painted so will do that tommorow

not much been done, got the rear bumper painted up

 

got the red strip off

 

and then sanded the bumper and removed the rear light lenses

 

and masked up

 

and all finished:D

 

just got all the arches and the front bumper to go

then i made myself a little replica

honey i shrunk the 205 lol

so that's nearly finished now just got to re furbish the wheels and put reg plates on also touch up a couple of areas that are a bit messy

 

in other news got a new backbox for the real gti

then sommething i have been meaning to fix since i got the car

it opened

 

build up of dirt where you couldn't get to wash it :doublesho

 

also got the engine stickers back on

looking allot more original now

 

last job of the day was to paint the window switch surrounds as the plastic had decayed and you could scrape off with with your finger nail:doublesho

so sanded to good plastic and painted in anthracite as its close to the original grey

 

before (drivers, not as bad as the passengers side)

got the stub pin fitted today

 

here's before, the wheel leaned quite allot

wheel off then disk and calliper off

hub

nut off

hub half off

pin almost out (used a big hammer to extract it )

bearing re greased and hub back on

nice and straight

disk and calliper back on

wheel

and on the floor

it looks like its leaning a bit on the pics but i think that's just a dodgy camera angle as it looks perfectly straight in person

wasn't too hard to do the worst bit was getting the hub back on as it comes off in 3 sections so you have to put it back on in 3 sections lol but only took about an hour

 

then gave it a wash to end the day

got quite a bit done to the car recently:)

first off robbed off with my brothers cone filter whilst he wasnt looking:lol: but it doesent suite the car or the theme and didnt improve the engine in any way so its now gone:thumb:

then gave my remote oil cooler a bit of a polish :argie::argie:

gave the slam panel and behind the lights a bit of a clean too, its not bad but there is some rust which will need addressing soon

got the radiator and fan back on, hoping to get a twin fan set up soon:thumb:

 

the paint on the slam panel had for some reason cracked which was really letting the engine bay down

so got that sanded and painted (unfortunately didn't have any satin black at the time so had to go anthracite)

and fitted

also polished and waxed the bay:D

 

bonnet catch back on

and front grill attached with lights (after being cleaned and waxed)

then fitted the origional radio

 

today i got some satin black and got the kit re painted on the passengers side

looking much better, just got to do the front bumper the door handles and the boot pl

collected this tonight for £10.50

after a bit of a hoover

and the reason i got it:doublesho
