Drive Boot Fitting

Recommended Posts

dee205

My o/s outer drive boot is torn and I have the car for mot soon. Trouble is I don't have a cone for fitting a boot.

How do people normall tackle it as I ripped one or two in the past arsing about with screwdrivers etc.

I have a spare shaft I can always throw in but wanted to see how this goes.

If it's a 1.9 or 309 GTi driveshaft, just knock the outer CV off the shaft - makes replacing the CV boots a doddle :)

It's a 1.6 so a pain in the arse. I think I'll take the handy route and swap the whole shaft.

Removing the tripod on the end is really not that difficult, should be a 20 minute job replacing the boot if the shaft is off the car.
