Surgie give it up, you have posted a link, people have commented, there is no need to battle peoples opinions. Can't you see that people are trying to wind you up by opposing you, its quite comical, happening quite a bit now isn't it??

HID's are good

Day light running lights are good.

if they look blue that'll be the naff aftermarket kits, in which case I agree they should not be on the road, however the o.e kits do not look blue.

If i said the sky was blue people would disagree because i said it

At the end of the day there is an official campaign from a good amount of people joining it, including some on here.

From what i've heard the MOT is getting an update/ revamp in the next yr or 2,

and one of the things they are clamping down on will be dodgy aftermarket HID's

how they are supposed to know whats standard or not i'm not sure, though i guess it might be obvious on a 20yr old 205

What makes you say there naff? I run 6000k in my cars, As close to o.e hids as you can get. There blue-ish for a reason, To replicate sunlight!

Pete, If you had said when your here, I've got some nice led sidelights you could of had ;)

The closest you get to o.e is 4200 or 4300k, and they are not blue whatsoever!!

Worth remembering that even the correct HID's will appear to have a tinge of blue to them

I can't remember the exact pseudo-science behind it, but it's something to do with the eye the eye views colours and the brain interprets it - after all, the eye/brain see regular headlights as white because that's what it is conditioned to expect them to be, when in actual fact they're a distinct yellow colour. The contrast between a regular headlight and a HID makes the HID look blue, when in fact it is a very crisp white.

(obviously the kiddies with the wickid-yo 10000k aftermarket kits in their Saxo don't count as they are distinctly blue, almost purple in colour)

I read that as well somewhere. If a car has aftermarket HID headlamps fitted, it will soon be an MoT fail. And so it should, as cars with HIDs from the factory have different lenses, levelling systems and washers, none of which a car with Halogens will have. From that perspective it is straightforward to tell whether a car has oe HIDs or not - just look for washers and auto levellers.

Anyway In reply to the op, I think I have the solution. How about we all forget about moving forward with new technology eh, and revert to something along these lines?

On second thoughts, maybe I'll stick with my HIDs*

*which I hasten to add are not fitted to my 205...

You obviously dont see where im coming from.

The fake type are very bad but the proper type are still shining in the eye too brightly that i have to look away when driving. They come into the rear view mirror and they sometimes when cars are turning, overtaking or going over a crest of a hill dazzle too much right in the eyes.

I drive a 2005 MINI and the lights on that car as do my 98 306 GTI 6 are very good and never have any trouble seeing the roads at all.

I agree with having better technology but when its a hindrance then no i disagree with new tech, BTW its not just me that hates them, check the link.
