Vacum Advance Capsule

Recommended Posts

Obey_R

Need to get hold of a new vacum advance unit for my 1.6 gti dizzy (0237009086).

Have called Pug and both units, 1.6 and 1.9 are NFP, part numbers 5159 80 and 5159 A5. Looked on the Bosch website and crossed the part numbers over. The Bosch number for the 1.6 vacum capsule is 123 712 3181 which was discontinued in 2003?! However I've read posts from 2010 on members still being able to get them from Pug for <£20.

I've called literally everyone I can think, quoting the Bosch number, and jsut asking to see if I can get hold of it with a reg.

Pug

ECP

Andrew Page

Autofive (no answer ofc)

GSF

Maccess

NCV

Pug Parts

Parkinsons

Anyone got any ideas how I can get one, or if not what can I do?!

Ross.

yeah, try a Bosch dealer!

It was a few years ago now but I got mine from Shorts Auto electrical in Cardiff, I recently managed to get some brake compensators from them for my ZX 16v, quite a specific part as they only sold 400 over here! :D

Andrew Page and ECP are both authorised Bosch dealers, nothing.

Called Shorts Auto today, the bloke was helpful but said he's never stocked it and it was discontinued in 2003.

What Bosch number did you order it under? The one that came up from 5159 A5 on the Bosch site was 123 712 3181

I know Shorts never stocked them, but I bought one for my 1.9 in 2004, had to be ordered in.

Might be that the 1.6 really isn't available at all anywhere, as they did stop making them a while before the 1.9.

They don't normally come with recon dizzy's, they are a seperate item & can't be refurbished afaik.

Without phoning someone that does dizzy refurbs to ask if they can supply them (do new dizzys come with them even from pug? ) the Ford fiesta one mentioned in your topic is likely to be your only option.

apparently the vac unit off some old vw's will also fit as most bosch units are similar.

there are some on the fleabay that look similar i have ordered one and will take a chance i will probably have to chop the rod off mine and tack it on with a mig to get the correct length.

for a 1.6 the rod is apparently the same length as the vw's but if it is slightly too long you could always shim between capsule and dizzy with a washer to compensate.

for the sake of £14 its got to be worth a shot as a new one for a 1.9 is £60 odd pound off a bosch dealer.

You can find the VW vac advance capsules in the uk if you google for them for approx £30 which makes me wonder if gsf would stock them.

Looks interesting, let us know more once it's been fitted. How much did they want for postage?

I spoke to a chap at a Ford dealer regarding the fiesta type one, he said the closest he could find was late Mk3 and some early Mk4 Escorts with the 1600 or 1600MFI engine. Both are unavailable from Ford now so it would have to be a scrap yard job - so just as fruitless as trying to find a 205 one I guess!

I bought 2 of them and total including postage was £34.

I have got a knackered 1.6 one here so when they arrive I can compare them, but I have been assured the vw one is same as pug 1.6 it is the 1.9 that needs some fiddling.

But we shall see when they turn up.
