Abs Not Working

Recommended Posts

Artemide

Hi,

As with most of 205's nowadays, usually the ABS has stopped working and as much as i've heard, it's usually caused by the crashing of the ABS pump witch fries the electrics in the block. Anyway mine isn't working also, so I got my self a supposedly working block. Switched it with my old one and still nothing. How can I check if the problem lies within the block and are there any other reasons what may cause the failure of abs.

Try cleaning all the electrical connectors. Another thing, you are meant to wait for the light on the dash to go out before you start the engine. :) TBH, the original ABS system is pretty rubbish..

When I turn the ignition to on, the ABS light blinks a few times along with the relay under the hood and unfortunately the light stays on:

That relay looks like someone has put it in.. I don't know what you can do to fix it then if all else has failed. Maybe try another pump? I have 2 in my garage..

Fit a wire between the ABS diagnosic connector and earth, turn on ignition, close wire to earth for 3 sec, then count the blinks of the ABS lamp on the dash and post on here. They relate to what component is faulty. You should also check the two connectors to the wheel speed sensors under the front wheel arches for corrosion. Check that the resistance of the abs sensors is about 1.4K. Check that you actually have ABS driveshafts with the encoder rings. If you remove the ECU in the boot and the connector from it, you can check each connection if you have a schematic.

eta, as per what monkee said, that relay is not original, and shouldn't be there, I would hazard a guess it's been put in to get around some other problem.
