hello guys

just bought some bike carbs 34mm mikuni

i was just wondering how long the manifold should be from the head to the carbs? (if it has to be a certan distance)

and a good sized jet to start off with but think i will just work my way up with drill bits if its a good idea?

any help would be ace thanks Rod

i cant help with manifold etc but would not recomend drilling jets it can cause lots of proplems

most bike carbs will be max 1200 cc so i would think you will need to go up a few sizes

You could aim for 350 mm from trumpet mouth to valve. Be sure to use trumpets, even if it's just the rubber ones that came with the bike. Also make sure you make a proper manifold and have the carbs rigidly mounted to it.

You'll have a very hard time getting the float bowls level and the bonnet to close and by hard time I mean impossible.

Main jets will only sort your WOT mixture. For mid range mixture you need to adjust the clips on the needles and even the shape of the needle. For low range you need to adjust the air correctors.

As for the low cc of bikes it's been discussed before. They may be low cc but they rev almost twice as high, and even though efficiency drops at higher revs, a 1000cc bike engine could suck in just as much air and fuel as a 2000 cc car engine and develop the same or even more power.

Having said this I'd advise you to stay clear of bike carbs, I tried this route, never managed to sort mid range fueling, did go like stink on wot, still miss it, but they were a pita and unreliable.

Theres nothing wrong with drilling jets as long as you're not a spastic, i've been doing it for years and never had a problem

You shouldn't have to worry too much about the distance from carb to head - maybe 50mm (that's the rough length of the carb rubbers on my bike)

34mm Miks have been used on all sorts of bikes over the years, including GSXR1100s.Good, reliable carbs that give good mid-range on peaky short stroke engines.

Are they CV, round slide or flat-slides ?
