Rear Bump Stop Replacement.

Recommended Posts

SurGie

Hi Member's,

Well while the suspension arm is off iv tried to have a go at the seized bump stop bolt. There was no bush there whats so ever and may have been missing which has led the bold to seize up. The other side is the same.

As you can see iv drilled a 6mm hole and wondering which route should i go next for when i replace it.

Should i weld a new plate with a captive nut welded on once iv got rid of the old section or try to tap the hole, i would have to have the suspension off to tap as there is not much room there ?

ps, my 1986 GT bump stops are in perfect order, just goes to show the GTI was driven quite hard it seems.

Cheers.

Drill it 6.8mm and tap it M8. Much easier when the beam is off but not impossible with it on. Job done.
