Lost The 205 Bug

Recommended Posts

jo's MI16

I feel I have lost the 205 (mi16) bug. I am considering selling her and maybe going for a 106gti. The reason being that I'm being charged a ridiculous amount for my insurance(sky insurance) and she has sat on the drive for the last month with no tax. I just don't know what to do for the best. Please help. :-(

106 gti is much too civilised! s1 rallye maybe, but only because they look awesome! other than that keep your mi16, or any 205 for that matter.

Cant be much difference in insurance can there?

crap gearbox, more rust issues, naff rear beams, same rear brakes as a 1.9 205, many have issues with the seating position.

best thing about them is the newer wiring and a good engine

205 mi to 106 gti, i dont think so. if you was upgrading i could understand or even downgrading because of cost but going for the 106 is 2 steps back and a step to the side.

each to their own i guess

I don't know what to have, i just feel like a change and cant make my mind up. I want something nice and sporty which is also family friendly and something that my 17 year old daughter would be able to drive when she passes her test, also something that is cheaper to insure, instead of jumping up over £150 each year. Any ideas of different cheap reliable cars would be very helpful.

Surely putting a 17 year old on a 106 GTi wiill still be comically expensive?

Insurance has been getting more expensive on the the whole for all cars, so I cant imagine sellinga 205 and buying something of similar performance will provide a saving in insurance costs.

My daughter wants a 106 quicksilver bloody insurance on them aint cheap, lol. especially after she has passed her test. The only thing at the moment that is putting me off selling my car is that i have spent a lot of money on having it resprayed (usual lacquer peel) and having engine rebuilt, so would be gutted if some boyracer brought it and wrapped it around a tree or something else.

at 17 any car is going to be expensive to insure a 1.4 or even a 1.1 i would try and compromise with your daughter keep your 205 and get a small engine diesal 106 and then when she has some no claims of her own get her to work her way up the engine sizes eg a 1.4 quicksilver ect
