Back In A 205 Gti Saddle!

Recommended Posts

scottbarton

Hi guys....

Am pleased to say that after a couple of weeks searching i have finally put a deposit down on a cracking little 205 GTi. :-)

I used to own a red F reg 1.9 many many moons ago when i was 21 (am 36 now) and always vowed to get another one. I remember when i owned my last one i had a soft spot for the 'Miami Blue' colour....and now i have one!

Will be picking it up on the 1st May.

Cheers for the comments people. The car is located at the other end of the country so she should get a good run on the way home. B)

Just one question at this point. I notice that there is no sunroof wind deflector fitted to this car. Was this an optional extra?

I have searched for info on this but to no avail?

Would very much like to fit one, but again, i have looked but cant find any for sale anywhere.

Hi, nice looking car. :)

I'm not 100% but i think the deflector was an aftermarket product for the non-vacuum, aftermarket sunroof.

I have one fitted to my car and i don't think it will fit a factory sunny as the actual sunroof cutout is much farther back than a standard/factory sunnroof.

Hope that helps.

Hmm..interesting...

My old F reg i owned many moons ago had one, and that was a factory sunroof vacuum type...

Found one on ebay and bought it.

If its wrong or does not fit will sell it on.

IIRC, the deflectors were a factory Peugeot accessory. :) They are definitely a Peugeot made item. Personally, I don't like them, but they do what they're supposed to!

This car is in Edinburgh isn't it?

I remember seeing it when I was looking for another Gti. I ended up travelling to Gatwick for mine - funny how a lot of us end up having to travel the length and breadth to get what we want, never seem to be local when you're looking.

No way! I didn't connect the dots before due to Scotts location. I've seen this 205 frequently. The owner must work at South Gyle.business park as I regularly see him go past at about half 5 every day when I'm waiting for my bus. Looked tidy enough driving past but even better in the pics.

Yup, it is in Edinburgh. Train tickets all booked (£47 one way..not bad!), and a friend is jumping on the train as I go through Newcastle so we can sample the Edinburgh nightlife. Then next day, sort the paperwork & car and start the long trek home dropping my friend back along the way.

Looking forward to the road trip! :-)

I am estimating 2, maybe 2½ tanks of fuel.

Nah, unless you nail it the whole way you should be able to do it on a tank and a half. The a1 can be quite an enjoyable drive so long as traffic is not too heavy. But for some more interesting roads plot a course directly south out of Edinburgh to Newcastle which will take you through more rural and twisty A roads.

Liking the sound of that. :)

Not long to go now, eh? ;)

Saw it again a few days ago, waiting for the bus home from work. He seems to be using it quite regularly for work despite his comment in the adert

Only reason I'm selling is lack of use which can be no longer justified, I have owned the car over a year and done 3k miles as it was bought as a weekend car.

:D

If you came from Scotland for a look at mine that would be some trip.

No wonder you bought this one.

Yup! That's me!

Made the journey from Kent to Edinburgh on Saturday, stayed the evening and picked the car up Sunday morning.

Drove it home and got back last night after stopping and taking in some of the Roman ruins in and around Hadrians Wall on the way back.

Car did not miss a beat and it brought back some great memories!

Pics and stuff to follow.

:)

Driven past this car quite a few times in Edinburgh, looked clean when i passed it. Miami blue is the best.

Its back in Kent now.....I say 'Back' as when i was looking through all the docs yesterday, it turned out that the car was bought new in Bromley, Kent! That is only 20 mins down the road from me! Its as though i have brought the car home again!

I have all the service history, receipts and documents for the entire 20 years of the car age. Most impressive.

Really happy with my purchase. It does have a 'to do' list which i am compiling now, but its mostly time that will need to be spent.

So far:

  • Two new front tyres (worn edges due to tracking being out)
  • Blown instrument bulbs (dash already taken apart and wife sent to Halfords to get lamps)
  • Blown driving/fog lamp bulb (To be honest will probably replace both lights due to being a tad rusty at the bottom edge)
  • Drivers seat split stitching
  • Alarm/Immobiliser not working (Apparantly disconencted, just need to find it!)
  • Coin box broken (Item already bought off ebay)
  • Slight crack in drivers door speaker cover (Item already bought off ebay)
  • Small dent in passenger front wing

This will keep me busy for a short while!

More stuff for the list after going over the car with a fine tooth comb. Also, found the latest service sheet buried in amongst the paperwork with some recommendations....its going to get a bit more expensive now. Happy days!
