Motaquip Clutch Cable Confirmation

Recommended Posts

Anthony

Can anyone that has ordered and received one confirm for me that VVC367 is the correct part number for a BE3 (1990 onwards) clutch cable for a 205/309 GTi?

Certainly that's the correct part number according to both Motaquip eCat and from Motaparts, but the part I received was completely wrong and not a Peugeot cable.

I think it's a case of wrong part in the correct packaging (as the bag was open) but they're insisting that it's correct and that the cable I need must be a dealer-only part, which is clearly nonsense given how widely used the cable is. Thus can anyone that's ordered a VVC367 confirm that it is definitely the correct part number for a BE3 cable so that I can get them to order me in another, as they're reluctant to do that when they already have one in-stock which they believe is correct?

VVC367 up to 1991 (xu9ja)VVC 505 1991 onwards(xu9jaz). in my book :) both 1440mm long, and both for BE3 g/b

Hope this helps

Tom

Edit...

the motaquip i deal with (ex boss owns the branch) frequently has problems with filters e.t.c being in wrong boxes. more so the jap import stuff.

i have had non-abs shafts for abs cars from them before, but they use other companys for those ( not motaquip shafts but still in there warehouses)

is there a part number on the shielding for the cable? it may not be a motaquip no. on the part itself but should be able to cross reference it to see what it fits!

Interesting. VVC505 is listed as a 205 BE3 cable, but for most models it's listed as 1983-1989 which would make it in the BE1 age range

Anyone actually ordered and received the correct cable for a BE3, be it a VVC367 or VVC505?

Just for the benefit of anyone searching, just to confirm that VVC367 *is* the correct part number for a 205/309 BE3 clutch cable and, as I suspected, the one I was given originally was the wrong part in the right packaging :)

I risked pot luck when the cable on my 306 auto adjust mech slipped by getting a QH cable from my local motor factors, I got the same Dura cable that I removed & from talking to the pug parts guys he said they were the brand used from the factory both for clutch & handbrake cables.

I checked this when I bought some oe handbrake cables & they were dura in the pug boxes & also on an old 1.6 GTI beam.

The Motaquip cable I picked up this morning was also stamped Dura on the cable itself :)

I've been much more wary of pattern clutch cables from motorfactors after having a few month old GSF cable snap on me despite the clutch action being nice and light (new clutch a year or two previously and greased free-moving linkages). Conveiniently it snapped whilst I was on my way to pickup another 205 that I'd just bought and thus I carried on driving to the sellers house, paid him for the car, and then used it to tow my other one back home much to their bemusement

Indeed, it's now got to the point where if a motorfactor cannot supply me a known OE-equivilent brand (eg Bendix for brake parts) then I'm reluctant to buy from them at all, as I'm sick of sub-standard parts that fail prematurely or don't fit properly. Motaquip by and large seem to be pretty good, and given how they're closely linked with Peugeot I suspect that many of the parts they sell are effectively just rebranded OE stuff, but failing that I find that for more and more stuff now I'm just biting the bullet and paying the extra for genuine OE parts - it's not cheap, but to me a car that I don't have confidence in being reliable is all but useless.

on the whole i have found pug prices to be very reasonable on the items i have bought lately, like you i much prefer having something i can be sure is not going to fail in a few months.

for example clutch fork bushes from pug £3.00 odd over £7 from neats on fleabay

clutch bush/first motion seal £10

I'd usually be wary of pattern stuff also but the clutch cable on my 306 went on my way home from a night shift & I needed the car the follwong evening to get in to work so I had no choice being carless so I was very pleased when I saw the Dura name stamped into the outer casing.

Shame they couldn't get a price for the speedo cable when i asked at my local motaquip a while ago, motaparts don't list one either.:(
