Engine Mount Buffers

Recommended Posts

I've had a problem recently where if the throttle is 'blipped' whilst driving in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and it causes the car to lurch, it will then 'bounce/kangeroo' quite violently until you let off the thorrle and ease it back in. I thought initially it was just because the engine wasn't running too smoothly (which I'm sure doesn't help) but I then thought to check the engine mounts and there is a lot of movement on them.

There is about 6mm between one buffer and the mount, and about 2mm between it and the other buffer. It can be moved by hand so it's pressing against either buffer.

Is it time to change these or will I get away with 'packing' them with washers as suggseted on a search!?

If I do change them, is there a huge difference between the GpN and standard, and should they still be 'packed out' so they're touching the mount?

Standard 1.6GTI as daily driver, so don't want it too rough!

Thanks

definitely!

the main mounting underneath it probably needs changing too.

packing it out for the time being will help though.

Group N I think will be significantly stiffer, though its been a while since I had some original Peugeot mountings.

Ok so I'll get new buffer and engine mount for that side? Am I right in thinking these can be changed with the engine in situ.?

Yes that's correct you just need to support engine and remove the ally top bit,you can then get the buffers out and the chisel the main mount off.

they can indeed though the engine obviously would need supporting whilst the arm is removed.

Now reading Haynes/searching. Is there a good way of checking if the main mount that side will need replacing, or are they cheap enough just to do?
