Gti6 - Rad Fouling Inlet

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Hello,

I've spent this morning putting my '6 back together since removing the engine to detilt it.

When it was tilted, I found I couldn't get the radiator in without the front grill being about an 1cm-1.5cm forward on the drivers side as the inlet pushed the radiator forward.

Now, the engine is on standard mounts and I have the same issue.

The fan cowl is a double fan thing and the radiator is a new one from GSF.

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong here.

Help,

thanks

Keith

You can use 'Z' type brackets to lower the rad away from the inlet. I think Tom Fenton sells them on here, check his thread out.

Toms bracket is a little overkill, the rest of you haven't had to do that? I gave away my spare fan cowl a while back, buggar.

Some cars need to some dont, there will always be some different tolerances with all cars compared to each other. Iv not fitted my VTS engine in yet but my old engine was the 2.0 MI16 or the S16, anyway there was plenty of room with that engine in. The master cylinder had enough clear room from the cam cover also, but iv still slotted over the servo bulk head holes to make sure the MS will have enough room when i install the VTS engine, just in case.

I think i have a spare fan cowlng in the attic you could have.

I think the problem is the fan cowl, it's a double fan and the radiator bits didn't fit in the holes so I had to widen one so it would drop into place.

I've now modified it to try and get it to fit but like a chavved up Corsa all I've down is ruined it and not improved it.

On my first 6 i cut all the unnecessary meat off the fan cowling and it allowed the radiator to tilt towards the grille about 15mm

I've got an ally rad lowering kit here on my car, welcome to give it a try out and make me an offer when we meet up for the other bits?
