Gauge In The Top Right Corner Of Dash

Recommended Posts

jimbobclarkie

Can Anyone tell me what the gauge is for in the top right of my console, i have a 1.9 gti 205 1989, it has what looks like a oil can for a symbol,

Next question, is it supposed to drop to two notches above the red when idling? normally when i start her up the gauge is about two notches from the right.

I have only noticed it drop this morning no other time

Regards

James

Do you mean the top left of your dash? If so it would be the oil pressure, which when idleing will fall, about 2 notches sounds right. The pressure increases with revs. The gauge at the top right is the oil temp, but takes a while to heat up and moves very little (on mine at least!), even less so on the 1.9 as they have an oil cooler.

Yeh sorry meant top left lol long morning,

And ok cool i take it that it only poses a concern if when idling it falls into the red?

Cheers

Two notches above the red while idling is about right in my experience, although it'll be lower when the oil is hot (see the gauge on the right). TBH it's fairly inaccurate anyway, but gives you an idea of what's going on in there!

The 205 dash gauges are dodgy at the best of times. As long as the big red oil pressure warning light doesnt come on, or the stop light, then you have little to worry about.

As has been said though, it will fluctuate with revs, and if you get the oil particularly hot it will register quite low when idling. But the oil pressure light is what really matters, if that comes on turn the engine off!!!

Thats is what both of my pugs do. They are not the most dependable gages tho. The one in my 309 Gti told me this morning i had zero oil pressure when heading down the M4 at 70.
