Brakes!

Recommended Posts

aymen_a22

I have a 205 XS and have very poor brakes.

My dad is going to scrap his Citroen Berlingo Van (1996) 1.9D and I was wondering if anyone knows if the disks and calipers will fit on or not?

Currently I have the following disks on the car -

Solid - http://www.apecbraking.co.uk/search.php?cat=friction&item=652375

And I want to fit these from the Berlingo - (not sure if they are solid or vented at the moment)

Vented - http://www.apecbraking.co.uk/search.php?cat=friction&item=622633&notify=added

Solid - http://www.apecbraking.co.uk/search.php?cat=friction&item=622632&notify=added

Does anybody know if these will fit because I know you can use 205 1.9 GTi brakes and most 306 brakes however I always thought the berlingo and the 306 were very similar.

Any help would be really really appreciated.

Thanks very much

Berlingo's do use 306 hubs which, in theory, are the same as 205 1.9 gti hubs. I cannot comment on the brakes though.

They sound like they may be a variation on the 266mm brakes commonly found on many PSA models, it's a known upgrade and i'd hazard a guess the calipers will bolt on as will maybe the discs, but i wouldn't like to guess if they'd be the correct offset.

If they are 266mm discs with girling calipers then its likely they are the same as 306 S16 brakes.

the whole assembly (discs and calipers) will fit straight on, you may need to use the wheels off the berlingo to gain clearance

Thanks for all the replies, would these brakes be better than the originals? I know they are vented but I wasn't sure if the pedal stroke would be longer due to larger pistons.

Thanks again

depends how much larger the pistons are, they arent any bigger than the gti6 or 206 gti180/307 brake setups so I doubt you'll notice a massive difference.

they'll only be significantly better than the originals if the opriginals are shot tbh.

I have removed some calipers from a Citroen Berlingo, which are Lucas calipers, do they bolt straight on to a 1.9 GTi?? They use 266mm discs and the hubs look identical... Sorry, got a little confused about someone saying girling calipers fit straight on. Aren't the standard 1.9 GTi calipers Lucas???

No, as standard they were Girling calipers on the 1.9 & Bendix on the 1.6 / base models.

You will loose some camber with 306 hubs on a 205.

Answering the question though, 266mm brake setup from a Berlingo wiill bolt straight onto either base model or 1.9 GTi hubs.

Check the availability and price of uprated pads though if you're looking to go down that route, as it's quite poor for some variants of brakes available in the PSA range. I think the Berlingo ones are shared with late 306 XSi's and are reasonable, but worth double-checking.
