Plug And Play Inlet Manifold/tb For Xu10J4/s16/mi16

Recommended Posts

Hello. I will be fitting my S16 mi16 engine into the 205 soon, which inlet manifold should i fit? as i am ditching the acav system. I am using a 405 3row loom so i want something that will work on standard management, and with the least amount of fuss to fit!

I beleve the xu10j4rs manifold has a larger throttle body so in theory should let it breath better? and you get the GTI6 noise!

the 1.9 mi16 inlet i have no idea about as i havnt realy looked at one!

My system doesnt use a AFM so i dont know if i can use the xu9j4 throttle body?

There are more shortend mi16 items around, but the gti6 manifold should fit with a bit of work to the rad surrounds and the slam pannel.

Thanks In advance

Tom

least amount of faff would be to retain the RFY inlet manifold, IMO its not as bad as most make it out to be.

The problem with 1.9 Mi16 inlets is the throttle body. Most are past it now, and whilst rebuildable (as long as the spindles are OK), easier option is to go with the other 2. That was the reason behind fitting a GTi6 inlet to my 1.9 Mi16. Worn TBs can cause loads of grief, but since my '6' inlet went on the idle etc has been spot on :)

Most junk the ACAV/inlet from an S16 when they go tits up. Wouldn't you have to change the management if you junk the ACAV too?

I dont think so, there are no plugs that go to the ACAV parts, Ive been messing about trying to find where all my plugs on my loom go all day, and none of them go to the acav, it is just vaccuum (sp) operated. should run fine without it, maybe a little rich i have read.

Fair enough, I honestly didn't know hence the question :)

there is an ecu actuated solenoid in the ACAV system, but apart from that its vacuum pods and pipes, its so damn simple!!!!

You dont have to change the ecu if you fitted a gti6 inlet, but you'll have to d*ck about with the oil filler and breather and icv pipework, blank off the MAP sensor takeoff, blank off the original ICV (retaining the elbow)

Find somewhere to take a MAP signal for the ecu.

All in all if you have a complete RFY inlet, just fit it, I still haven't seen any evidence that the gti6 inlet is any better !

Yes, that does sound like a LOT of work! I shal order some vacum pipe and get it sorted. thanks for your input.

Yes the 6 inlet is a huge improvement but you must get the ECU mapped or aftermarket one fitted.

Is the map essential to get the performance increase out of it? would it run fine without a map? I dont want to go trying to get hold of the acav parts and the plastic inlet as mine has a nice crack in it :(

Would rather fit the 6 manifold and forget about it.

With the OE ECU it doesn't run that well really

What about the alloy mi16 manifold? Will the s16 throttle body fit? I don't want to butcher my slam panel and radiator fan mount. And I need a new manifold anyway.

Mi manifold is the worst, TB is nothing like the S16 one either and they need the cowling trimmed down, At least the Gti6 one is a direct for and the S16 one needs a couple of reliefs cut into the panel at worst.

I have mounted my gti6 manifold tampoary.

Throttle cable fits, yellow and grey plugs should fit. and the 3 pin plug should fit. what do i need to get rid of? i am aware i need to blank off the hole where the resonator was but what about the cylindrical shaped black thing with a 13mm id hose coming off it and a grey plug on?

And where would i get the 'map' sensor from?

Thanks

Tom
